Habs Pick up Downey

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=152027&hubname=nhl

TSN.ca Staff

The Montreal Canadiens have picked up forward Aaaron Downey off waivers from the St. Louis Blues.

The Blues waived the hard-hitting winger last Thursday.

The 6'2'' Shelburne, Ontario native has two goals and 45 penalty minutes in 17 games played this season with the Blues. In 137 career NHL games played with the Blues, Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks and Boston Bruins, Downey put up five goals, two assists and 273 penalty minutes.

This is stupid...we need someone who could score! not take a bunch of stupid penalties...we already have enough of those

Do we really need another 4th liner on this team.

I don't see how he could help our team right now or in the future....

If anyone knows please tell me.

Good. We need someone with a little hair on their balls.

The guy is a complete nutcase. Anyone ever see the show "3 guys and a goal" with him, Roberts and Lindros?

Character guy, borderline NHLer, he can fight and he can play hockey as well on the 4th line. He's probably an upgrade on either Murray on Ferland. Not a bad pickup, we can only hope he can put a little more spark. Now lets put some toughness on our other lines.

I assume since he spent a couple season with Dallas before this year, that Carbo and to a lesser extent Gainey has to be kind of familiar with him.

I don't see this as anything. If the guy couldn't keep a job in St. Louis, I can't be too excited. This might keep Souray from fighting and also might mean Ferland goes back to Hamilton mind you.

Whatever.

Hes definitely and upgrade over Ivanans but over Ferland or Murray im not sure, did hes that intense ?? Ferland and Murray are probably better skater / hockey player too

Ba, its true we need a goon to protect Kovalev in game against sens, cgy or leafs..

...ugh i have to stop thinking of trades...it obviously won't happen.

Yah, and he's been KO'd like twice this year alone. Not a great fighter.

Would rather have called up Ivanans...

Steve Downie and Aaron Downey. Not related.

I'm happy about this, we need someone to throw a big hit or pick a fight. If I played in the NHL I would have tried as hard as I can to fight someone or at least hit really hard(even borderline dirty) after the Canucks scored those 2 fast goals to change up the tempo and try to swing momentun our way.
