hey before everyone knocks the guy he stood in there with peter worrell for 4 minutes

every fight i seen he goes long like the vandemeer fight was 1.08 second of bomb after bomb . like it has been said atleast he got the will to stand up for our guys so we dont lose souray like in calgary. he also say he like to go after the other teams skilled players and knock them off there game man ABOUT TIME if it doesnt work there always room in hamiltion right?

Besides, Downey’s obliged the best – Edmonton’s Georges Laracque leads the list of his encounters as detailed on hockeyfights.com. Ask him about one that stands out and he’ll tell you about a battle with giant Peter Worrell.

“It lasted four minutes and 15 seconds,” said Downey, who was playing for Dallas at the time, while Worrell, one of the top-ranked heavyweights through the years, played for Colorado. “I was really outsmarting him. The fans were going bananas, chanting my name. When we were finished, he just looked at me and we ended up going out after the game and having a beer. The fans couldn’t believe it.”

My point is; we got Vandermeer in FA and are paying him 450k to be in the minors
and I think Ivanans could do the same, if not a better job than Downey, who has gotten KO'd in his last two significant fights.

We only pay half of the 450 000$ salary. For that amount it's not too bad. And Downey was 4 years with the Stars when Gainey and Carbo were there. I think they know what kind of player he is. He's intense Begin style. Stop whinning a little

Vandemeer had his chanced and didn't do shiate...
Ivanans, got KO'd his first fight, but I do agree, I would of liked to have seen him get another chance, but it was not to be so...

That really sucks...

Is it just me, or is this season one of the most frustrating you've ever seen?

I see it this way. We seem to have a guy on the bench play only a few minutes a game, so that player might as well be a goon.

Who cares how many fights he's won/lost. Point is, he's a respected tough guy around the league, and teams will have second thoughts about running our guys when he's on the bench. There's no point having Kosty play 3 min, a goon filling that role will be much better.

2000-2001 was pretty bad, 1998-1999 was tragic, so was 1999-2000. 2002-2003 made a serial killer out of me. 1995-1996, I wanted to slit someones throat. So, its been a good year as a Habs fan .

Too bad about Murray. Seems like a hard-luck guy with serious injuries. As long as Downey is better than Dwyer, it's can't be that bad of a move.

We need guys like this, we can't have souray using his bionic wrist all the time doing all the punching its going to be hazerdous to his health. We can't afford to lose another defenceman who is loging large amounts of minutes for us.

It's simple.
Murray is out for the season.
Downey played for Dalas 2 years so both Gainey and Carbo know him.
I think its a good move. I'm not sure it would have happend if Murray didnt get hurt.

Downey is a part time enforcer, so he'll be dress when needed.
Anyway, he might light up some intensity for some teamates !!!
Nothing to loose, hope he plays tonite
