Those athletes now who trains and take cares of their body and already have the talent, can produce well into their early 30's

I am betting Scheifele is one of these athletes.

true i'd bet he's one of the few who squeezes a few more years out due to dedication but that can only keep you going so far. crosby and malkin have maintained a high pace only because they were previously even higher, and when they started to slowly come down, are still above everyone else due to how even more elite (eliter? ) they once were. their regression won't be noticed as much as a lesser players would. but everyone experiences it one way or another.

scheif still has many great years ahead of him fortunately for the jets.

It looks like Scheif with a little extra rest has shed what lingering injury he had. He is back to be the force we have grown use to. Now up into top 5 in the points race, a place I expect to see him with regularity, especially if he keeps playing with a trigger-man like Laine.

I think Scheifele is an underrated player. All the Laine hype is getting ridiculous.. Scheif deserves more credit.

The Leafs fan base is calling him top 5 C?

BUT IN REALITY - MARK SCHEIFELE is ELITE

The best part of the Laine-Matthews threads on the main board is how much the Maple Leafs pump up Scheifele and Ehlers as elite players as to the reason Laine has more points.

Regardless of reason, it's great to see Scheifele get some props from the most condescending fan base.

Scheif and Laine should not be split up again... would actually be interested to see what Armia could do with those two - that's a pretty massive first line if Armia finds his scoring touch

You just need to look at Wheeler to see that some players can peak when they're 29 or later.

lol.

Last few years Leaf fans be like "55 is a joke, 3rd line centre at best."

now theyz all "#55 is L33T centre" cuz it fits their Mathews for Calder narrative.

A lot of Leafs fans gained a new appreciation for Scheifele at the World Cup as he did a lot of the heavy lifting on that line with McD and Matthews. And Babcock coached him in the tourney as well.

Babcock was head coach of Canada. Team NA's head coach was McLellan

Assuming Babcock is Canada's head coach if the NHL goes to the olympics, I think those comments bode well for Marks chances of being invited.

At this point, one would hope Scheifele is Olympic-bound if his trajectory continues.

That would be very exciting.

Yea I think between how Scheif finished last season with 61 points in 71 games, then his play with Stone at the World championships, followed by his very solid World Cup pretty much solidified Mark as a "thing". Doesn't hurt that he is 5th in NHL scoring at this snapshot in time.

Leafs fans may be jumping up and down praising the otherworldly talents of Mark to fit their Calder narrative but I think most of them legitimately think he is really good at hockey.

No way they can leave Scheif off of the team if the players go.

I think Scheif really benefitted from the ASG break. The time off really seemed to do him good and he came back looking like he had a new set of legs...hoping the bye week helps even further.

Someone mentioned on the radio that Laine stayed in town for the time off.

Actually during World Cup, one of their goals against FIN was disallowed because Scheif the Goon ran into the goalie, and Matthews didn't get an assist. after that Scheif was an anchor that was dragging McD & Matthews down..

Sheif is, and will continue to be the engine that drives this team. No worries about that guy... however, who will be our 2nd? Little for a time but after that? Roslovic looks good and could supplant Little. Lowry is a keeper IMO and will make a dandy 3rd ctr. Havn't seen enuff of Connor to form an opinion.

Future looks real good tho as long as we shore up the left side and the GT comes together.

I am not sure if this article has been posted yet but it was written by Jeff Hamilton from the Winnipeg Free Press on Schiefele and it is probably the most comprehensive look at Mark to date. A very good read:

Not yet. Mark has always been a bit of a late bloomer. A couple years still until we see his peak.
