My habs firesale

I think if we loose the next 2 games it will be over and we would have to trade some player and gives key roles to our young guns if they can't fill it out till the end of the year we can go via free agency and rebuild a new core !

My proposals:
to edm: Theodore 5.33M$ cap hit
to mtl: Peca 3.99m$,Conklin 1.14M$,Laraque 1.083 cap hit (montreal receive 880k$)

to chi: Dandenault 1.75M$,Zednik 1.8M$
to mtl Aucoin 4m$ (Montreal receive 450k$)

to Nash: Koivu 3.4m$ (I don't want him to leave us .. but he's the still the player with the best current value and if we don't make the playoff at least .. get something out of it)
to mtl: Shea Weber rookie max? .. 850k (montreal save 2.55m$)

to min: Craig Rivet 2.66m$
to mtl: B.Burns 0.836k$ or 3rd pick (minnesota choice) montreal save 1.824m$ or 2.66m$

to fla: Ribeiro
to mtl: 6th round pick

sundstrom waived or minor

new montreal lineup:

Kovalev Plekanec Perezhogin
Higgins Peca Ryder
Bulis Bonk Kostitsyn
Laraque Murray Begin
downey,ferland spare

Markov Komisarek
Souray Weber
Bouillon Aucoin
streit,burns spare

Huet
Conklin

so what you guys think ?

a) why would you trade for Peca if you were having a firesale?

b) trading koivu is retarded

Peca because is contract is over (I beleive at the end of the year) while theodore is contract still has 2 years left !

trading koivu is maybe retarded .. but I must say that if we have to make a big change it starts with koivu .. and i'm not sure if it's a good idea to pay him over 4m$ ..
I beleive we can replace him with plekanec and if it doesn't work .. we just can go bid on another center this off-season .. heck maybe get koivu back !

How about Gagne for Souray?

Cant type that with a straight face. I remember a thread in 04 when the Habs fans thought that proposal wasnt nearly enough.

Trust me that Huet is not a starting goalie. He is an incredibly capable backup.
Everytime he is given the starting role, he collapses after a game or two

Firesales usually result in picks/prospects not useless players like 70% of the ones you labeled.

Peca conklin and laraque? god i'd rather have a 3rd round pick

You mean you're keeping Bonk?? Then again you would probably get a bag of pucks for him.

No thanks for Conklin, Peca and Laraque .. Peca is an UFA at the end of season .. You can't trade Rivet is the best right defenseman on the Habs blue line depth .. trade Zednik in Nashville for Ryan Suter maybe..

It's not a firesale but more nothing

look .. me too I would prefer picks or prospect !
but nobody will give you top value on theo not even close..
also no team will take all of theodore salary .. if any team is ready to give us a pick for theo .. it's a done deal !
but look at the fedorov trade .. theodore will not get his full value .. it's either we trade him for some underachiever or keep him until his contract run out ..

Why would you trade Koivu and replace him with Peca who makes more money and isn't in the same class as Saku?

Just FYI, Kryoptix is assuming that you would have to either move assets or take salary dumps back to get someone to pick up Theodore's contract. I don't think JT's value has dropped to that point. Montreal would probably have to take back Peca to make it work salary wise, but I think that a Peca + good prospect or pick would probably work from EDM's point of view.

There is NO way that Nashville trades Suter for Zednik.

You might be able to do move Rivet to a team like ATL, NYR, or EDM that could use some blueline help, but you'd probably have to take some salary back.

Overall, I think that many of the originally proposed deals would be possible based on a rebuild plan for the Habs, which is a rarity on this site. Good job!

The only way that EDM can afford Theo is if they jettison Peca's contract. If MON wants to trade JT, they would likely have to take back an expensive UFA to be to balance out the salaries this year, but they don't have any $'s committed in the future.

The proposed deal also would add one of the top 3 or 4 D-prospect in Shea Weber. That would be a VERY high price for NASH to pay, but it would give them the skilled #1 center that they need IMO.

Can't give you Weber for a guy we could lose in the offseason.

Koivu alone wouldn't guarantee us a chance at the cup, and Weber is a huge price to pay for a rental. He's not a "down the road" prospect, he's a guy that could probably be on the team NOW, and will definitely be there next year. He's also the only big, physical d-man we have in our pool, and that's an organizational weakness. If we're losing Suter or Weber, it has to be for a YOUNG, non-UFA guy...a guy like Richards.

My how the mighty have fallen. It was only a couple months ago the habs fans around here were talking about winning the cup this year with their "amazing" team.

To answer the question though. Why would edmonton want a 5.33 million dollar goalie who lets in 5-7 goals a game? I think EDM can find better ways to spend their cap money.

I would agree that trading Koivu isn't a bad idea. If you can find a team that would give some talent back in a trade that would be a good move. Just my opinion but one of the biggest problems the habs have is their defensive core. It is by far the worst in the league. If I was a habs fan that is where I'd start.

After his last 2 outings, Theodore has about as much value as diarrhea.
