Now that Mario had to retire due to his health, who do you think will become the next Captain of the team? Or maybe the team won't have another captain until next season.

Recchi comes to mind. God help us if they promote Gonchar from Alternate.

3 Alternates is my guess. If they name a new Captain, Recchi. Darkhorse, Orpik.

No one deserves it, no one will get it.

We'll keep the 3 alternate system until someone deserves it.

We'll have three alternates, for sure. Don't expect a new captain to be named until training camp next season.

Nobody should have it this season, out of respect to Mario. I like the 3 A system that other teams use, like Philly and NYC. I personally wouldn't award a C for a couple of years, maybe when Crosby matures, or even Malkin once he has a year or two under his belt.

Recchi comes to mind first, but something isn't right about that in my mind. He's not really captain material, no matter how much he contributes in the locker room or where ever else. Besides, he's 5'9... not exactly a commanding presence.

The C is something that has always been a very honorable and sacred position with this team, and it shouldn't just be dished out lightly. I'd rather go with the 3 A's for the time being to preserve the meaning of the C. It's going to be a long time before we see somebody fill the shoes of Mario Lemieux.

We also need to consider whomever (if anyone, that is) joins the Penguins via free agency.

Wouldn't that be wonderful if we could pull in a dominating veteran forward next year? A winner with experience and work ethic. And someone who's in their prime, not on their way out the door of their career.

Definitely. Couple that forward with a top notch defender such as Wade Redden or Zdeno Chara to help fix our blue line.

Take the A away from Gonchar, give it to Orpik. Only change I'd make. Nobody deserves a C just yet, considering our C's have been occupied by shoe in hall of famers for the last 15 years. Just thinking about anyone wearing that C other than Le Magnifique...

You mean like Gonchar and Palffy were last year?

Orpik is about the only guy on this team that plays balls to the wall all the time. he should get some consideration, and likely wont. Crosby would be my 2nd choice.
hopefully gonchar and recchi wont be here within a week so they shouldnt get much consideration.

On second thought I change my vote...........Marc Andre Fleury deserves the Captains C..........First goalie ever with the C.............He has played his A$$ off all year and is one of very few who stand out.

I'd anticipate a Three-A's system for the remainder of the year. After that, the Pens will sign Bryan McCabe in the off-season and make him the captain he was supposed to be back in NYI.

People may not like it, but I would not be surprised to see Crosby the Captain next year - if not to start the season by the time it finishes. He will be a year older and outside of them bringing in a really deserving name, I can not really see any player on that team who will be a more logical choice. Certainly not another of the youngsters, of which half this team is made up of. Now go through the Vet names in your head. Only Recchi comes to mind, and he is not the future of this team, even assuming that he is here next year. There is not a single other veteran that I would choose.

Shhh, don't say that too loud or you're bound to bring on an outburst from all the trolls and Crosby-bashers.

I agree with sticking with the three A system for the rest of this season, and then see how things play out next season with the roster and then decide who should get it.

Crosby is the future captain of the Pens. As soon as he (or management) feels ready, he'll get the C. Until then, they should go with three A's.

Likely not a bad idea. Crosby as I said would have the C virtually by default on this team. Right now. But keeping the team without a Captain for another year would not hurt at all. Then Crosby, or Malkin if he earns it, could step up and take it.

Out of respect alone, nobody will wear a C this year and possibly next.

I highly doubt that the organization will give the C to Orpik anytime soon considering he's been a healthy scratch earlier this season.
