Doug Weight ???

Michel Villeneuve just opened his show on CKAC 730 by saying that Gainey is shopping for Doug Weight !!!

Has anyone of you guys heard anything about this rumour ?

In who are the Blues interested in ?

Bulis

I know Villeneuve is not a very good source and he likes to start alot of bla bla !

Dont flame me for this . I`m just reporting what I`ve just heard !

Regards

Doug Weight is always a good option for any team, he's tenacious and he definetly has not lost a step. I think he has a good 3/4 years in front of him and he's a tenacious player. I dont know though, should he be seen as a replacement for Saku Koivu or as a 2nd line center? It would give Bob Gainey a lot of options.

this has been talked about in the past, I think Weight is a great player but may be a bit '' Kovalevish '' via effort

The Sens, Flames and Flyers are also interested, with the Senators being the probable choice. I'd pick the Sens if I were him at this point in his career...

Not what we need right now, defense should be the number one priority. Let a team like Ottawa overpay for him, they need him more than we do.

I don't think he'd waive his no trade clause to go to Montreal.

I'd say its between Ottawa, Calgary and Nashville.

Doug Weight will be UFA and has a no-trade clause on his contract.
He would be a rental to help us make or do better in the playoffs.
I sure hope Bob goes after Doug just for the fact that Ottawa are reported as having interest in him. I think he might be an expensive rental but so was Kovalev (at least at the time when Balej was our leading scorer in Hamilton.)
Will he waive his NTC to come here is another question.

We need a Dman or agritty winger for the 2nd line more IMO but basically I'm just desperate for anything to happen.

I read hiss name here and there , with few teams in the run. Habs is one of them .But i also read that Ottawa is in the front , because Blues are asking a high return for him , so i can't see what we could give in return .

That's depending of what they look for ; Prospects or establish players .

I just hope Gainey persuades Langenbrunner to sign with us next year.

I'd welcome Doug Weight with arms wide open. He is exactly the type of 2nd line center we need. We have decent scoring wingers, he could probably set up some nice feeds to Kost, Perez, Kovalev, Zednik, Ryder...you get the point. Plus he plays with more fire than Ribeiro. If we have to give up Bulis for him, I'll gladly drive him to the airport.

Good call, I also am DESPERATE for something to happen. B ut, really, not Doug Weight. I remember another Doug, was fun while it lasted.....but if the Habs trade youth for an UFA, and one past his prime at that?

Fix the D-Fence! I'm an offensive minded guy, i want our system to change.....but, don't give someone a piece of your farm for a chicken that might lay a golden egg. Odds are, that egg is gold-plated. Probably chipped too.

Doug Weight would be a mistake.

Exactly, Villeneuve is only useful to people who don't already have internet. I bet if you made-up a false rumor here Villeneuve will report it as a scoop the following day.

That will happen again don't doubt it. Never forget Gainey traded a young Iginla for a chance at the cup.
Balej for Kovalev cause an uproar on this board because we were giving up youth. You could argue though that Kovalev helped us against the Bruins and allowed a couple more playoff games at home and revenue for the Habs. You're trading a player that will have an impact in 3-4 years for 3-4 M$ right NOW. Business wise it makes sense.

Niewendyke won the Conn Smyth so Gainey did well in trading for him. Also, I'd say the balej trade was pretty sweet for us, if not for the cap hit unfortunatly.

Yeah, I wasn't knocking those trades. You use your strenght to address weaknesses. Our assets at the moment are our young guys so don't be surprised if we use them as trade bait.

One thing we could offer Weight that Ottawa can't is a longterm contract.

I made a thread about 1 week ago about trading for Doug Weight... I think he could be a good solution.. We all know what he can bring on ice and I think his leadership would benefit to us a big deal.

My proposal was Zednik + Ribeiro I think
