Who Is The NHL's Top Pest?

Pretty simple question really, which player in the NHL is the best agitator, a guy who always succeeds in getting under the skin of the opposition and playing a gritty, annoying brand of hockey.

Some likely candidates are: M.Barnaby, S.Webb, S.Avery, M.Danton, D.Tucker, K.Maltby, T.Nash, D.Kasparitis, J.Tootoo, D.Hinote, S.Ott, V.Varada, V. Vishnevski, R.Petrovicky, S.Nichol, T.Wright, W.Mitchell, J.Ruutu, M.Cooke.

It would also be nice to see who everybody thinks is the NHL's alltime biggest pest.

All-time biggest pest? I would say Esa Tikkanen.

I think Torres will make it onto this list eventually, along with Svitov.

Yeah Tikkanen was one of the best(or worse) that I've ever seen, along with Dale Hunter, Dino Ciccarelli and Ulf Sameulson(sp?).

But I would pick Bobby Clarke for alltime on reputation alone.(never saw him play)
And right now I think the biggest pest is Sean Avery, he never shuts up out there and last year he was so annoying his summer golfing partner(Steve Thomas)wanted a piece of him.

You're not considered a successful pest when you're continously taking retaliation penalties and dumb calls. Sean Avery has taken way too many bad penalties to be considered a 'good' pest.

Ask Kings fans, specifically the fans that witnessed the meltdown against the Wings.

Avery was awful.

Clarke doesn't really fit in with the group that you're mentioning. MOst of those players are 3rd and 4th line players, and Clarke was a franchise centerman, 3 time Hart winner and HHoFer.

For all-time I would have Ken Linseman up there pretty high.

"the Snott"..

He doesn't has that nickname nor being pegged as the new Pat Verbeek for nothing.

I've never played against any of these guys so I can't say who is the most annoying, but Tyson Nash seems like he would be a guy that would really get under my skin. Matthew Barnaby is another.

It's got nothing to do with credentials, Ciccarelli scored 500 goals and was a hated pest. The reason there are no top line players on MY list is because in todays game when a player emerges, he tends to leave that part of the game behind.(i.e. Peca and T.Marchant were clearly top pests until they scored 60 points) I'm sure there are some people who consider Bertuzzi and Forsberg pests to an extent.

Verbeek had a pretty good one himself "The little ball of hate".

I was impressed with Ruutu last year in the playoffs.

I think Tootoo is gonna be a good one as well...

Tucker, Varada, and Ott are guys who are great as well. I just don't pay attention to the rest...so I wouldnt know.

Currently - Bob Goodenow.

All-time - no contest; Terrible Ted Lindsey closely followed by Stan Mikita in his pre-Lady Byng years.

i vote for tyson nash right now. though larry pleau disagrees with me...

mike danton (speaking of st. loo agitators) has potential. pissing off lou lameriello was a big plus in that regard.

all-time? esa tikkanen. even had his own language, 'tikkanese'!

Maltby
Cooke
Ruutu

Cooke is gonna be the best in the next few years, he hasn't even fully established himself yet. And Ruutu draws penalties like no one I've ever seen (see last years playoffs).
