Remember: the way you win in the NHL is by spending as much of your cap on your 4th line and using what's left on the top lines. Seriously this is like something you would see on the badhockeycoach Twitter only it's being done by an actual NHL team.

If there aren't some trades around the league in the next few days then you know that nobody is willing to make trades. Some teams out there that look even more pathetic than Buffalo.

The absolutely pathetic Habs of last year score 10 on Avs and first place in the East. The 2nd half of last season they were worse than the tanking Sabres teams, now they are the best team in hockey...Pretty incredible turnaround.

That turnaround is called a 'healthy Carey Price'. He deserves all of the recognition he gets but I'm holding out on giving the entire team credit for being the real deal. Last year, they were a team of smoke and mirrors that crumbled without the best goalie in the world in their net. It was a train wreck of epic proportions. Still not sure that that good of a team without Price behind them.

We took like half of Rochester's D, no **** they're struggling. What's their top 4 atm? Probably has Brady Austin or something.

Leafs put 51 shots on Colorado and lose 3-1, Varmalov was a wall. Leafs are a handful, go go go - need a few defencemen and like us, time for kids to mature.

holy crap I just see the Leafs had 99 shot attempts.

Good news for the Jets: Laine scored again.
Bad news for the Jets: It was into his own net.

http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2016/12/12/...o-fourth-line/

Quote:
Type ‘Mitch Marner‘ into a Twitter search, and you’ll see plenty of reaction to Toronto Maple Leafs coach Mike Babcock putting the talented rookie forward on the fourth line Sunday.

This is a rather interesting development, because Marner, taken fourth overall in the 2015 draft, has had an impressive start to his first season with the Maple Leafs, racking up 20 points in 27 games and showing a dazzling display of speed, creativity and talent despite needing to pack on additional strength.

Against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday, Marner found himself on the fourth line with Matt Martin and Ben Smith for the early portion of the game.

Prior to that, he had gone four games without a point despite 12 shots on net.

Babcock, who has always stood by his convictions in hockey, defended his decision to move Marner down the lineup.

“I’ve just been watching the games,” Babcock told Postmedia. “I think there has been a message (from the coaching staff) going on for a bit.

“That’s just the process of growing up in the National Hockey League. It doesn’t go your way all the time, in practice, in games. You have to work hard every single day. I don’t know if I saw a response — I just thought it was the right thing to do.”

http://ingoalmag.com/features/the-gr...ation-project/

Quote:
Jack Campbell arrived with the Los Angeles Kings this summer as one of the biggest reclamation projects in the league.

He had no idea what his style was anymore. He had a poor save percentage, sporadic starts, and had fallen down a depth chart with the Dallas Stars at an alarming rate.

To try and get an idea of where they were at, goaltending coach Dusty Imoo had Campbell – known among his teammates and coaches as ‘Soupy’ – go out on the ice. He wanted to see where the holes were in Campbell’s game, to see what kind of style the netminder had, so he could start to work on a plan for getting his game back.

It took him almost no time to figure out what was wrong.

Campbell spends his summers practicing with Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck – and after watching the fellow netminder meet with so much success in the NCAA, then the AHL and NHL, he’d tried to mimic his style.

Imoo, who had worked with Hellebuyck on the St. John’s Ice Caps a year prior, saw the shadowing attempt immediately.

Campbell told Imoo that he’d tried mirroring Hellebuyck because he no longer knew what worked for him; if something was working for the fellow Michigan native, he hoped it would work for him, too.

The problem?

Hellebuyck stands a considerable bit bigger and heavier than Campbell, and his style works only for him. His stance is unique and somewhat awkward; Hellebuyck is comfortable playing like he does, but few others would be.

Including Campbell.

It started when he didn’t hit the NHL at age 19.
This was a very interesting read into why Jack Campbell has seen his pro career stagnate.

Quote:
Jesse Puljujarvi has been a healthy scratch the last two games for the Edmonton Oilers. The right winger may play tonight against Columbus, but an assignment to Bakersfield is not out of the question down the line.

“He’s shown he can play at this level. He hasn’t played lately,” Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli told reporters this morning. “It’s not ideal to have an 18-year-old not playing every game. He may see some time in the [AHL]. We’ll see how it goes.”

Chiarelli added that Puljujarvi would not be loaned to Finland for the upcoming World Juniors.
http://nhl.nbcsports.com/2016/12/13/...ential-trades/

Quote:
For the rest of the league, barring a miracle, about the only thing worth monitoring in Arizona is how the Coyotes will approach the trade deadline. GM John Chayka has not been afraid to make moves early in his tenure, and there are a number of pending free agents who could garner interest, including captain Shane Doan.

Doan would have to want a trade, as the 40-year-old winger has a no-movement clause. Though he only has three goals through 28 games, his 61 shots suggest he’s still getting chances. And he did score 28 times last season.

Forwards Martin Hanzal and Radim Vrbata are also pending UFAs. The former is a big center who’s already heard his name in trade rumors; the latter leads the Coyotes with eight goals.

Then there’s Anthony Duclair, who’s also had his name come up in speculation. The Coyotes do not lack young forward talent, so trading Duclair for help elsewhere could be something that Chayka would consider. The 21-year-old winger has just one goal in 25 games, but he did score 20 last season. He’s been scratched the past two games, after logging just 8:21 Thursday against Calgary.

The Eastern Conference standings are so funny right now.

3 points separate 9th (NJ 30 pts in 28 gp) from 16th (NYI 27 pts in 28 gp).

And the Sabres trail Boston by 6 pts with 2 games in hand for third in the Atlantic division, yet they are 15th in the conference.

Weird.

Since we are playing them on Saturday, I was looking at Carolina's numbers. Jeff Skinner with 25 points in 28 games. Somewhere, Stokes nods knowingly.
