You're gonna give him hope that Ennis can return to being something he never was to begin with

still getting outscored per 60 when he's on the ice, having a career year points wise, has always been a better player than Ennis

if I believed he was actually being shopped low a few years ago, I would have been disappointed we didnt make a move on him, Skinner and Okposo as the top 2 wingers would bring a nice offense to the team

Like Kane and Ennis, Skinner doesn't really play well with players who are better than him. He'd be a different flavor of expensive scoring depth on this squad.

Go Sharks, go Penguins. Let's see some '16 playoff magic, rite?

If the BoBos lose tonight, we can catch them for 3rd in Atlantic just by winning our games in hand.

Well, sorta thanks, finalists.

Bruins and Sens both pick up OT points. We're 7 points back with 3 games in hand on the Bs, 2 games in hand on the Sens.

Both the Bs and Sabres with 8 games between now and New Years, including the home-and-home against each other. So we'll enter 2017 with 3 games in hand on them as well.

Awesome promotion alert: when we play in Brooklyn next Friday they are giving out Ralph Maccio bobbleheads. If there is a fight in the game someone MUST sweep the leg!

Man, East is just ahead of the pack right now. Another 5/6 points against the West tonight.

Confused yet? If not, this might do the trick: Panthers owner Vincent Viola told Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman that little has really changed regarding Tallon and the team’s power structure.

“As far as I am concerned, Dale has always had final say over hockey decisions,” Viola said by telephone. “What we had done is bifurcate Dale from some things he didn’t need to worry about anymore [negotiating contracts, for example]. But, in terms of player decisions, it is his call.”

For what it’s worth, that actually does jive with what Tallon said during a conference call in May:

“I wasn’t a big fan of doing contracts,” Tallon said. “It frees me up to do what I think I do best, and that’s go scout, evaluate talent, mentor our young guys, and help develop them.

Friedman brings up a good question, then: why would this sprout up now if nothing has changed?

Basically, it comes down to a few possibilities, including these:
  • Viola and Tallon are both telling the truth; he really is calling the shots.
  • We might not totally understand the Panthers’ structure because they’re doing something different. Titles like “GM” could be a little fuzzier in their setup.
  • Tallon is a figurehead for fans who wouldn’t accept a “fancy stats” approach. By claiming that he’s regaining power amid this latest wave of criticism for analytics, the Panthers might buy themselves some time.
  • Or, maybe Tallon was a figurehead as discussed in point 3, but now he’s calling the shots in a way that’s closer to 1 and 2.

Buffalo really needs to win both games this weekend - at worst, I think they need to take 3 of 4 available points. Islanders are home against Chicago tonight, so we should have some advantage against a team playing a road game on the second of a back-to-back, while we rest at home tonight. That's somewhat negated by the fact that we're in the same position against Carolina on Saturday night, so they really need a regulation win vs the Isles on Friday.

Florida is a mess right now. I can't see him fixing that in the last 55-ish games.

I started this with Haseoke in another thread. Here's the rest of 2016. We have 6 games coming up all against non-playoff teams from the East. Isles twice, Canes twice, Panthers and Wings. Then the home-n-home with the Bruins. If we can't gain ground now while we are healthy and starting to gel then I don't know what to say.

Arizona is just pathetic, hoping they can eke out a win over Toronto but they are our tank years bad. No Domi. Duclair ....... yuck.

Well shades of Lucic on Miller just happened with lundquist. NO reaction from the rangers, and vesey was the worst culprit. I thought the lucic/miller incident was a team defining moment, and really defined the 5 sabres on the ice.

Interesting to see how it plays out longterm with NY

We better catch Boston and either Ottawa or Tampa Bay as well. Columbus is in the 1st wildcard spot, is 3 points out but has 5 games in hand. Philly just went on a 10 game win streak. Pittsburgh is being Pittsburgh. That still leaves the Rangers and Caps. The Metro is stacked this year. We better get the 2nd or 3rd spot in the division.

Phx/Tor was the best OT period I've ever watched.

What a 3 on 3 OT between Arizona and Toronto. No goals tho.

I love Eichel but Mathews is a super skilled beast of a player.

Great, Coyotes win the SO. A win tomorrow would put us ahead of the Leafs.

I think in the long run we're trying to go:

Montreal
Tampa Bay
Buffalo

and everyone else from the Atlantic is out.

I mean, depending on the last few minutes of tonight's FLA-WIN game and the action tomorrow, a win could vault us ahead of Toronto, Detroit, Florida, Carolina, and Jersey all at once.

Agreed, I was saying that catching just Boston won't be enough. We will have to be ahead of either TB or Ottawa as well. If your top 3 holds up it will be Ottawa we pass also.

I think this is the hope. Ottawa has had the games missed by Andersen, and Rask missed a couple at the start of the year, but altogether, both clubs have been very healthy, so if one of them does catch the injury bug that could cause them to slip a bit.

Whereas we're getting healthy, the Stamkos injury is really hurting Tampa right now.

We still have a shot, but as others have said, these next 6 games will be huge, they need to get 9-10 points in my opinion 4-1-1, 5-2, something like that, or better, to really make a dent in the playoff race. From there the 2nd half is a different story.
