Praise the Lord.
At least one team knows dead weight when they see it.

I'm *almost* more excited by the Clay sale than the Sale buy (written pun noted but not intended). Almost.

Clay has been an truly awful since literally 2012. We've suffered with him for FOUR SEASONS. Amazing to convince someone to take his salary off our hands.

Okay, folks, after that salary dump, who else do we need to move in order to make the EE deal possible?

EE is a no brainer replacement for Ortiz.

I say sell high on Hanley NOW.

Let's also create a market for Sandawful too. I recommend:

* Circulating emails with those pictures of a slim Panda

* Write anonymous posts all over the InterWeb about Sandoval winning the Venezuela Iron Man contest this summer.

If Brantley returns to form and is healthy that is gonna be a VERY nice team.

Probably them vs the sox if I had to pick my favorites for the alcs. Kluber/Carrasco/Salazar is no joke

I would so do this

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/r...ium=socialflow

Quote:
The Red Sox-Yankees rivalry resumes pleasantries for the 117th consecutive year next season.

As early as the 118th edition in 2018, however, the series could take a completely foreign twist.

The Red Sox and Yankees could be headed to London.

The idea of playing a series between the historic franchises in Greenwich Mean Time has been under discussion for the last two years by Red Sox owner John Henry and Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner. Now, with the ratification of a new collective bargaining agreement that spells out a commitment from MLB and the players to competing in multiple international destinations, and only one named city — London — talk of a Red Sox-Yankees matchup is turning more serious. What does appear to be a done deal is that the Red Sox, as well as the Yankees and probably the Mets, are going to wind up playing in London at least once over the five-year span of the new CBA.

Now that I live in Philly I laugh my ass off about this trade. No one here cares a lick about the Phillies, except the guy who wrote this article and one dude in my office. He brought it up to me the other day and I told him "who the hell knows how he'll pitch. Could be great. Will probably suck. Will definitely end up on the DL."

I think I ruined his day...

The fact that Trevor Hoffman has the same or more HOF votes than Pudge Rodriguez, Edgar Martinez and Roger Clemens is mind boggling to me

This is a projection but still...

My bet is he's considered to be a steroids guy. Whispers for years, played in Texas.

I'll be glad for a handful of guys that make it because I think they are good people and it will mean a lot to them, but I'm over giving a **** about any of it for the most part.

Really happy for Bagwell. Thought he got a raw deal that people assumed he was a PEDs guy just because he played in that area, despite never testing positive. Guy was lights out. Still pissed to this day that they moved him and kept Scott Cooper...lol

Good for Vlad, Raines and Pudge too. Don't really think Rock belongs in the HOF as he's more of a compiler (along the lines of Biggio last year) but if Biggio is in, then a case can easily be made for Rock. Shocked that Edgar didn't get more of a bump. The bias against the DH is BS, and I honestly hate NL baseball and pitchers being automatic outs. Sucks and it regularly kills rallies.

Jerry Remy will will beck on NESN

http://nesn.com/2017/01/jerry-remy-a...color-analyst/

Quote:
NESN, the television home of the Boston Red Sox, announced Wednesday that color analyst Jerry Remy (@Jerry_Remy) has agreed to a new multi-year contract that will see NESN’s primary Red Sox color analyst working 115 Red Sox games each season. “I’m very excited and pleased to be able to continue doing the job that I love, now heading into my 30th year and beyond with NESN,” Remy said. “I want to thank NESN and the Red Sox for all their support in the past and going forward.” “Jerry remains one of the most beloved color analysts in all of baseball,” NESN president and CEO Sean McGrail said. “As the cornerstone of our broadcast team, his perspective on the organization and the way he connects with fans makes our telecast one of the best in the league.”

20. Jason Groome, LHP, Boston Red Sox

Age: 18 (8/23/98) | B/T: L/L

Height: 6-6 | Weight: 220

Top level: Short-season A-ball | 2016: NE

Groome was the No. 2 player on my board in the 2016 draft, but he slipped to the Red Sox at the 12th pick overall because of concerns about his signability and off-field questions, which allowed Boston to take a lefty with one of the best curveballs I’ve ever seen from a high-schooler.

Groome is a good athlete with a very easy delivery, sitting 90-94 mph pretty regularly with projection to get up to the mid-90s on his fastball in time, something he has only done before when pitching in short stints. The curveball is a hammer, a grade-70 pitch he can throw for strikes that will buckle a lot of knees in A-ball this year, though I would guess the Red Sox will ask him to throw it less often to work on fastball command and develop his untrained changeup.

His arm works well, and he has the size to work downhill with his fastball, one of the aspects lacking from his game at the moment. He’s still relatively unpolished and probably four years away from the majors, so there’s a higher flameout or injury risk -- maybe 30 percent or so -- than there is for other arms in this region of the rankings. I’ll still take a big lefty with an out pitch curveball and potential for a grade-55 or better fastball any day of the week.
