The one time it was announced that he was skating was a mistake. It was actually Puempel skating that particular day, but a reporter got confused and said Buch had been skating. Buch has yet to skate.
He's skated once on his own. But that was a while ago.

And yes, that was a different time than when he was mistaken for Puempel.

They definitely are not similar but still can't help to think that. Just hope it's not a serious and chronic back issue.

Btw anyone else feel that zibby may be back before Buch?

I'd like for the Rangers to provide visual proof that Buch is alive.

Gotta admit the whole Buch thing is approaching bizarre. Mets-esque.

I think the Rangers simply do not know what is really wrong with him and are praying time will heal it.

I'm starting to think Buch probably has more issues than we are told. Which isn't good, but I hope the medical and training staff have a grip on things.

I have been wondering that myself. It's not like he wandered in off the street and just started playing hockey. I know the NHL game is vastly different from other leagues around the world but he has competed at I think every level and should have been in far better condition then we are being told he was in. I really hope he wasn't concealing a back injury that he sustained before he got to the NHL that has become worse. I don't want to sound like I am hitting the panic button but this could be career threatening. I would feel much better if the organization gave us a clear picture of what's happening.

You'd think that the journalists that cover this team would've had two questions for AV today. Who starts in goal? Can you provide an update on Buchnevich and maybe Zibanejad if there's any change in Ziba's status yet?

Its been 12 days since they've commented on Buchnevich for what we were told is a short term recovery.

This is either journalistic incompetence or the Rangers are hiding something.

That would mean asking a question that might actually necessitate a meaningful response though. It would be violating rule #1 of being an honored member of the hockey media. It's more appropriate to just ask a question like: "So coach, how important is it to come out strong against Pittsburgh Tuesday night?" and get an answer of "You know, it's really important. We really want to start off that game strong, get in on the forecheck and put pucks to the net. That's going to be the gameplan Tuesday."

Yet another press conference.

They ask him very unimportant questions without any significance.

Meanwhile, there hasn't been a Buchnevich update in 12 days.

It's not really necessary to ask about Zibanejad. Everyone knows what the timeline is on him and when he should be back.

They should be asking about Buchnevich. It was supposed to be 2-3 weeks and then that went out the window and he's not even skating now. All of this while there's been no updates or anything. What gives?

How much ab and lower back strength is needed to play pro hockey? How do you even measure that These are such bizarre updates.

There is very real reason to be concerned at this point.

It's as if it's out of sight out of mind with everyone in the Rangers organization media included. Fans would like an update we just don't get one and I doubt everything is status quo

I had a back problem from hockey at 22, I was playing in a league that was several steps up from what I was accustomed and played when I definitely shouldn't have as I didn't want to wimp out. It was so bad I couldn't walk for 3 weeks and it took another 3 or 4 afterwards to get back to playing. Going to the restroom was the single most painful experience I have ever had.

I did exactly what Buchnevich is doing, after my back was well enough to handle core strengthening stuff. It took awhile, to this day I still do at the very least 100-200 crunches before a game or an activity where I will be on my feet for a long period.

I never had an issue even close to being that serious ever again. Just small ones where it was day to day or up to a week.

I am not worried at all for the kid at this point. If this is an ordinary injury he should be back, but he has to 1.) recover and 2.) strengthen his core. Together it takes a bit. Have some patience, if he works hard this will not affect his long term at all, short term it totally sucks tho.

Shrug. Better to deal with a back problem sooner, rather than later. I'll start worrying about it after New Years if there's no progress reported.
