Belanger activated

E-mail I just got:

KINGS ACTIVATE ERIC BELANGER FROM INJURED RESERVE
Conclude home stand at STAPLES Center tomorrow vs Anaheim

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have activated center Eric Belanger from the injured reserve list and he is expected to play in tomorrow’s Kings-Mighty Ducks game at STAPLES Center, Kings President, Hockey Operations/General Manager Dave Taylor announced today.

Belanger, 28, was placed on the injured reserve list on January 4 (retroactive to December 30) due to a groin injury he suffered during the Kings-Phoenix game on December 27. He has missed the last Kings’ last 16 games.

In 38 games with the Kings this season, Belanger has 24 points (11-13=24), 32 penalty minutes and a plus-five rating. At the time of the injury, Belanger’s 11 goals tied for fifth on the club. In 296 career NHL regular season games, all with the Kings, the 6-0, 188-pound native of Sherbrooke, Quebec, has 137 points (57-80=137) and 139 penalty minutes.

The Kings (30-20-3, 63 points) conclude a two-game homestand at STAPLES Center tomorrow at 1 p.m. versus Anaheim. The contest will air on FSN West, ESPN Radio 710-KSPN and along the Kings Radio Networkk. For more information on tomorrow's game visit www.lakings.com

Gonna be interesting to see who sits when Demitra, Roenick (and Belanger) return.

They go with 6 D (Dempsey and/or Weaver can "rotate.")

They probably sit guys like Parros and Cowan, though Popcornopolous and Giuliano can't feel too terribly secure either.

He's a good player. I like the way he plays. Gets in on the forecheck throws his weight around. What have you seen that is SO bad from him?

Well neither does Avery anymore. But thats probably because of AM. (That doesn't mean fire him)

But lets focus on the good news that Ebel is back. He's of MUCH help.

Well, most recently, he took a page from Joe Corvo's playbook and vacated the front of the net to help Weaver with Laracque, leaving Edmonton to a free goal on Garon.

He has some skill on offense, but I've never seen him do anything outstanding in the defensive zone. He makes a great 4th liner, but if he can be used as a trade asset to help the team get someone better, he needs to go.

Fourth line guys are a dime a dozen, and it's not like Cowan comes to any team with a wad of success. He's burnt through a few teams and will probably burn through a couple more before he becomes a footnote on the pages of NHL history.

I can see a team like Florida grabbing him, but since they just picked up Jon Sim, I would say, one fourth liner at a time...

Ottawa will go for guys like Doug Weight... Philadelphia will also try to get the best player possible. Teams won't be lining up for Jeff Cowan... It's just a fact of life.

When they come back, I don't see any need to send anyone to Manchester (at least not for numerical reasons) since we'll have 14 forwards, 7 d-men and 2 goaltenders:

Demitra
Conroy
Frolov
Roenick
Robitaille
Brown
Cammalleri
Armstrong
Giuliano
TK
Parros
Cowan
Avery
Belanger

Norstrom
Miller
Visnovsky
Corvo
Dempsey
Weaver
Gleason

Garon
LaBarbera

I'm sure scratches will be based on who we're playing and how guys are playing.

Yeah, I don't expect them to send people down, but the suits in the press box will be interesting.

Look, kids, the Kings' GM "acquired" a big defenseman on Thursday and a forward today, just like he said he would

Ok, guys Belanger is back, this is GOOD, he will definately help our PK, i think JR is going to come back with a vengance! I have a strange feeling, he's WAY too good of a hockey player over the years ! and Demetria, we all know what he is capable of! did anyone notice that Conroy finally took over the team lead in points with 51 yesterday, and Pavol has been out almost 3 weeks. I can't wait til' this team is healthy!!!! GO KINGS GO!!!!!

belanger should help a ton..particularly in faceoffs...when was the last time our PK guys won a faceoff? I think they won one against EDM....that faceoff win could make or break a PK

Seriously, lately we have been terrible on face offs...or when we actually do win it on a penalty kill its just not clean enough for our guys to get the puck out the zone.
