I wondered if people would think it looked like a psych office chair... Google was giving me cats and scantily clad people lounging and quite frankly it was more effort than I wanted to put in and that was the chair that came up.

In the end of Finnish epic Kalevala (mythical, traditional stories collected from among the Finnish people in the 19th century by Elias Lönnröth) Marjatta is inpregnated by a klingonberry. Born in a stable, guided by a star the newborn youngster was to assume the role of king of Karelia, guardian of all. The eternal sage Väinämöinen, the old and faithful wisdom-singer said to let time pass, a day go, another come, Väinämöinen will be needed once more, watched upon, missed upon, as the one who forges new Sampo, anews plays, brings new moon, as releaser of a new day when there is no moon, no sun and no free joy.

As the years passed Väinämöinen
Recognized his waning powers,
Empty-handed, heavy-hearted,
Sang his farewell song to Northland,
To the people of Väinölä;
Sang himself a boat of copper,
Beautiful his bark of magic;
At the helm sat the magician,
Sat the ancient wisdom-singer.
Westward, westward, sailed the hero
O'er the blue-back of the waters,
Singing as he left Väinölä,
This his plaintive song and echo:
"Suns may rise and set in Suomi,
Rise and set for generations,
When the North will learn my teachings,
Will recall my wisdom-sayings,
Hungry for the true religion.
Then will Suomi need my coming,
Watch for me at dawn of morning,
That I may bring back the Sampo,
Bring anew the kantele of joyance,
Bring again the golden moonlight,
Bring again the silver sunshine,
Peace and plenty to the Northland."

Thus the ancient Väinämöinen,
In his copper-banded vessel,
Left his tribe in Kalevala,
Sailing o'er the rolling billows,
Sailing through the azure vapors,
Sailing through the dusk of evening,
Sailing to the fiery sunset,
To the higher-landed regions,
To the lower verge of heaven;
Quickly gained the far horizon,
Gained the purple-colored harbor.
There his bark be firmly anchored,
Rested in his boat of copper;
But be left his kantele of magic,
Left his songs and wisdom-sayings,
To the lasting joy of Suomi.

Translation by John Martin Crawford, [1888].

Klingonberry jam is soooo good. Imagine getting impregnated by one. So lucky.

I can't help but look at the name of that thing, contemplate other desserts to be made with such, and immediately think "IT IS A GOOD DAY TO PIE".

I blame my geek parents.

Everyone acquired their Christmas hams already? Do you prefer them with mustard veil or without?

If you only knew the power of the thinly cut Christmas ham slices.
