I haven't seen much talk here about Begin's first few games. I've been pleased with what I've seen so far.
He's not terribly big, but he hits hard, has been strong defensively and (finally!) given the Canadiens a center that physically punishes the opposition down low. This has been desperately needed, in my opinion.
Begin's puck control and reception is less than stellar, but he's able to keep the puck ahead of him and win battles along the boards. This is what's important from a fourth liner; not to make the pretty passes, but to get it deep and hammer the opposition. With his abilities in the faceoff circle and strong fundamentals, he finally gives the Habs a legit fourth line center; something the team has lacked for ages.
What have you thought of Begin so far? And has anyone tracked his ice time over the last three games? I'd be interested in seeing if he's received any more ice time over the games...
I thought he's played well. It's clear he's a very good hitter. Likes to throw the body for sure. Doesn't seem to have much skill offensively, but we do need someone that is physical.
What I want is to see Langdon Begin Ward in action. A line that hits more. Sundstrom is a 3rd liner, IMO, not a 4th liner.

Couldn't agree more. I beleive you and I see eye to eye when it comes to team toughness and the kind of physical/character players we need on that team so I can only say that finally having a 4th liner that is both physical and has NHL level talent comes as a nice start. Now if we could only complete it with Laperriere on his wing...

He played 9:37 against Detroit, yesterday and 10:15 on Saturday night vs. the Leafs. That's all NHL.com has.
i remember when Gainey drafted him from waiver, ppl make fun of he can't score and stuff... But we don't need him to score as long as he can do well defensively. He played with intensive and forechecks well. He looks like a very legitimate 4-liner to me. However i still think he is replaceble by other centers since we have too many centres after koivu is back. Hopefully he can prove he worth the spot in roster.
I think Van Allen is a better 4th-liner... why did we let this guy go?
Last year, we really really missed him. Check his stat, he is amazing as a forth liner with the +- and points. And i remember
Well it's quite obvious that Sundtrom is not a 4th liner and i think the majority of the people would surely agree. Now about Langdon, i cannot wait for him to play his first game, you know the's going to fight for sure, it's going to be very exiciting having a guy that can win fights.. also Langdon is (from what nucks fans tell me) a tremendous guy in the dressing room, and even a fan favourite for his style of play.
Yeah, i cant wait to see Langdon also.....will he play on Thursday against the Islanders? The Islanders have a pretty physical team, and we could sure use him. Nice to have Koivu back for this game. How about Kilger, when will he be back?
My forward lines when everyone is healthy: Note that i have taken Audette and Perreault out of the lineup as i think they will be traded for mid round draft picks/prospects this season....with the surplus depth of forwards it makes sense..guys like Ward, Begin and Langdon will get more playing time

Ward on the 1st line is a pipe dream as far as I am concerned. I like the person he's a great guy to have around on the 4th line though. He hits and can chip in with the odd goal. I'd have Kilger center the 4th line when Ward does come back with Begin on the wing.
Begin-Kilger-Ward
Kilger would have no choice but to work hard and leave it on the ice.
