Any suggestions is much appreciated. We would preferably like a Hotel within walking distance of the MTSC.

Also what's a good place to eat around that area, preferably something fancy but good food? We aren't opposed to a pub of some sort either as long as the food is good.

Also what are some good activities to do on a Saturday night in downtown? Game will probably be over by 5ish I'm guessing so open to any suggestions of what the lady and I can do afterwards.
Shark Club is good, has good food, bevvies, scenary and has casino with VLT's and tables and is a one minute walk indoors to the arena. The Pint is a Pub that is good for after the game, it gets packed and they make a dance floor later in the night, its a few blocks away but not a far walk. As far other food places, I like Smith, it's at the Inn at the Forks, Deer and Almond and Peasant Cookery are nice little places in the exchange. Rudy's in the Hydro building right by the rink has good food as well. There are tons of unreal bistro options that are unique to Winnipeg, like Enoteca for example (unreal flavours in their food) let me know if you are willing to cab it and I will give you a list of my faves, but in the mean time google the above and see if it's for you. Some of them are tapas styles so you have to be into that. Also, Carne is a new fancy enough steakhouse near the rink on York, that may be worth a look online.

I would book the Alt hotel right across the street from the MTSC.

What you opening down there? Maybe I'd go down and be your grunt

I'm retired about 3 years now. Just wanted a change of lifestyle. Less driving more walking.Easier to travel when you live in a condo. Don't have to get someone to look after house mow lawn etc. Better airport to travel from and no more -30c in winter. Mountains

Nice work! Sounds like you will certainly enjoy retirement. I'm only 27 years away!

I want the west coast to be pre-earthquaked before I go out there. Being a pessimist, and all.

Hope they've got a good building code and been sticking to it. That's what's made the difference between life and death in a lot of our recent big quakes.

Very much saddened by the passing of Carrie Fisher. Big crush for a very long time. Quite the entertainer as well when I saw her at cons.

I second the Alt Hotel. Was in town for 2 nights earlier in the month to see NYR vs WPG. Hotel is conveniently located across the street. You just have to walk half a block. If you're a light sleeper don't get a room facing Portage. Living in NYC, I'm used to the sound of traffic, but was woken up at 3AM by the sound of the snow removal trucks backing up. I thought it was my alarm clock going off.

I do wish the hotel was connected to the Winnipeg Indoor Walkway.

Here are some photos of the hotel and some pics of Daly Burger which was recommended to me by some folks from this thread. http://imgur.com/a/a53aS

So keeping up the LadyJet action plan for what 2016 can do......actress Debbie Reynolds passed away and for those of you to young to remember my dad just told me that she is Kerry Fishers mom and the stress of her daughters loss was too much for her.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think one persons pain should minimize another's, BUT...

My Mom died this year. That should put these celebrity deaths in perspective for people.

The only reason I post this is because I've seen so many people acting like it's the end of the world (not here) when a person who wrote a song they liked or they grew up listening to, or they watched in their favorite movie dies.

You didn't know this person. Sure, they brought you joy and happiness, and it's sad to see them go, but you are in no way attached to them.

My Mom's common law husband, in 2 years, lost:

Mother
Sister
Wife
and now his brother is sick

All with stage 4 cancer. I can't fathom the pain that he has had to endure, because losing my Mother was unbearable.

So, please... take some time to remember these people you idolize, who you loved watching and listening to, but... the people you see every day -- the ones you hug, love, protect. THOSE are the people we should reserve for true sorrow when they pass.

Happy holidays everyone

I imagine she died of a broken heart. And I agree with Jet. I've suffered my own loss this year and over the past few but nothing compares to either losing your significant other or your child. It sucks that celebrities are passing but that's life and it's not something like a personal loss.

Sorry if that doesn't make sense but I had a crap sleep last night. Can't wait until Holden gets back tomorrow.

I think it's the sheer number of well known and generally respected celebrities and musicians that are dying is what's making it seem like a bigger deal. Bowie AND Cohen. Rickman, Wilder, Fisher AND Reynolds. Plus the young guy playing Chekov in the Star Trek reboot.

My grandfathers died this year, in the first and last weeks of University respectively. Made for some tough times.

Anyway on a more positive note, went to an amusement park with my cousins and their friends yesterday. I was a scared little kid but now I just love thrill rides. Also might go out and purchase the parts for my PC I wanted to upgrade.

I dunno man. The passing of a favorite artist can be a very significant thing. I believe there is an attachment. It's just a harder one to define, maybe it changes from person to person, and artist to artist.

I listen to a lot of music, and did even more when I was younger. Certain songwriters, I know all their lyrics. I have learned to become a more artful person through their music. To appreciate aspects of beauty in the world I would not otherwise know. I have experienced some of the most meaningful moments of my life while listening to these songs. Songs that, when heard, transport me back to those moments more intensely than anything else. I have sometimes taken refuge in these songs in moments of pain or sadness.

Perhaps not all artists are capable of having this profound effect on someone's life. But I could easily imagine someone like Leonard Cohen doing so.

I tend to feel empathy in death pretty easily but I concur when it happens with loved ones it is very different. Very good friends of ours lost their 6 month old daughter almost 2 years ago. I got the news when I was on our company trip in the Dominican and I didn't hesitate to hop on a flight home to support my wife and our friends. I felt their loss very deeply and still get emotional when I think about it. I lost my brother when we were way too young and ever since then I have no problem feeling the pain of others who go through similar situations. It was an unexpected parting gift from him that I have learned to embrace.
