Fontaine's 2 goals tonight. Really like these goals. On the first goal, he parks himself in front of the net on the PP and stays there...ultimately scoring on a nice re-direct. Second goal is nice, too. Nice burst of speed through the slot, and a well-placed shot.

Huska gave up 3 goals on 13 shots.

Wall allowed 4 on 20. Tough night for the keepers.

Thanks much appreciated - is age of 21 too young to try to get on a NHL team, your thoughts about his chances next years training camp, or is`t too early for him?

I was looking at some trades last night and it's interesting. We all know Buch was the 3rd rounder acquired in the Nash trade, but Yandle brought Reunainaun(sp) as the 4th rounder, and when his rights were traded to Florida, Wall was selected with that pick. Both are good prospects with potential so remember in 3-4 years if either or all make it, the asset management was better than initially thought.

Same with the Talbot trade where Huska, Zborovsky, and indirectly Kovacs and Morrison were chosen. Huska is having an excellent year, Zbo is improving nicely and might be a rugged 5-6 or even second pair if he continues to impress, we'll see what Kovacs has learned and how he plays next season, and many of you like Morrison.

Nice highlights for Morrisson and Ronning. I like Ronning's one timer, not too big a wind up and seems to be hard and accurate.

Nobody stepped up this year. There's a difference between "keep up" and "step up". If you're not a first rounder, the odds of making the NHL are against you. In all, 4.7% of Canadian Junior players making the NHL, with the WHL a bit higher and the QMJHL a bit lower. It's about the same for college D1 players: 4.6%. That means that on your average roster, a little under 1 player per team makes the NHL. Only a quarter of these can be classified as above average NHLers, so just slightly over 1% of CHL/NCAA players become a top-6F/top-3D.

Unless a mid/late round takes vast steps forward, he's not making it. Look at Graves. He's shown a ton of improvement since he was drafted in the 4th round, but look at the expectations for him: third pair D. It would be a mistake to expect much from a kid who "kept up" and improved a little year to year after being taken in a similar or later position, but one who never had a breakthrough season.

I think it would slide for 1 year because Reunanen will be 19 next year. The year after won't slide no matter where he is because he will be 20. ELCs can only slide when the player is 18 or 19.

sorry for joining this late, but this is ELC aspect is speculation, right?
he has not yet signed an NHL ELC. or did i mess that news ?

also, despite the new 2 year Finnish deal, i believe there is precedent for Euro players to come over before completely fulfilling that deal (ie say for '18-19)

thanks

What do you think about Gettinger? I think he has "stepped up," though I'm still not sure what to make of him.

To be honest, I don't know what to make of him. If he's putting up points because he can manhandle teenagers due to his superior size, that's nothing, he'll be in the ECHL. But I doubt it since he has only 14 PIM. He went up from .65 ppg to .88 ppg, which is solid, but not spectacular. Then again, big guys develop slower. This is one of those cases where it's hard to predict by seeing only the numbers. Either way, would be nice if he picked up the scoring a little more this year and a lot more next year.

Gettinger and Soo are getting stomped 5-1 by Sarnia through about 2 periods. Gettinger however has the lone goal for Soo, which is his 22nd and pulls him within one point of last year's total (in 17 fewer games).

Fontaine has stepped it up. Statistically Day hasn't improved that much, but the reports on his defense and consistency have been great. Pronman said Day was our most improved prospect just the other day.

Day broke his streak of six games without a point by scoring in the first tonight.

Wowee that's a juniors goal if I've ever seen one. However, there are nice things to take away from that goal. Particularly, his speed to get there after chipping it away.

Nice to see him hit 100 though

That second assist just makes me seriously doubt that he's turning into a bust, the kid has talent we just need to figure out how to properly harvest it.
