Trying to get the Flames a back up

After listening to and reading various so called rumours... the list of "POTENTIAL" back up goalies the Flames "MAY" be looking at are as follows:

Atlanta- Dunham
San Jose- Toskala
Tampa- Burke
Pheonix- Boucher
Buffalo- Noronen (Do not think this will happen)
Boston- Raycroft (He might not be available)

Now remember I said the Flames "MAY" be interested in theses guys and I am not even sure any of them are going to be moved. My question is who might these team be looking to get in return?

Special deal for Flames only. Conklin and a fourth for a seventh

Seriously I think you guys are looking for somebody that costs next to nothing for the rest of the year. Whoever it is is probably looking at no more than 4-5 games barring injury.

If I were a betting man, I would look at Jamie McLennan down in Florida.

He won't cost much, he has a connection to a lot of the guys in the locker room, and most importantly Sutter has faith in him. Maybe a mid round pick (3-5) for McLennan after the Olympics.

My 2 cents...

I think Martin Prusek would’ve been the perfect fit for the Flames. Experienced, reliable backup. Dirt cheap in salary and trade cost. Unfortunately, he’s in the minors right now, so he’s pretty much untradeable.

No one will trade for him since he’s subject to recall waivers and Columbus can’t call him up before a trade because anyone that would want him could just pluck him off waivers at half-price.

Actually, that's a good call. I could see Florida doing it for a mid pick and Sauve.

Didn't Craig Button only give up a 9th to Minnesota for him the first time around?

While I like Noodles, I don't think he is the right guy. I think the preassure of coming back to Calgary may be too much for him A LA Vernon and Tabbaracci. My gut says it will be Toskala (FA) or Dunham (FA) with a very small outside chance of Burke depending on what Tampa does (not sure on his contract and I don't really want him).

I don't think Raycroft is gonna come at a cheap price like the other "backups" you have listed.

They should sign Potvin if he isn't on a team at the moment

There has been a fair amount of talk regarding Lalime in Calgary but the question rose about who would put in a claim ahead of Calgary? Van., Edm, Chi and Col. were all ahead of us in the claims order

Lalime cleared waivers, so nix that option.

I could live with Burke,Dunham or Toskala as backup. Sutter said he expects his Back up goaltender to be his hardest working player at practice. Competing to steal the number one job.

I would add to add that it's hihgly unlikely anyone trade a goalie with some potential/decent talent to the Flames , nobody want to pull Kipprussof part2 .

Noronen from Buffalo seem the most possible move at this point .

How would Noronen be the most likely guy if nobody wants to trade Calgary a goalie with potential? I guess I am not getting your point.....?

That aside, Sutter has said that his ideal backup should be able to play 15 games and win 10 of them. He wants a guy who will work his butt off in practice. So he has expectations for his backup.

This whole Sauve situation is quite strange. Sauve was a David Marcoux (Flames goalie coach who has worked wonders with Kipper) protege and it just hasn't worked out so far.

I'm curious to see what Sutter does. My gut tells me he picks up an experience backup for the playoff push.

Sebastien Caron is a good NHL back-up.
Give him a better defence, and I think he can be very sharp.

Those teams all have backups. They are all missing starters. I don't think anybody really sees Lalime as a starter with 30 games to go in a playoff race.

Highly doubt it. Sauve was a McLennan clone in the fact that both of them accepted their roles as backups, and both fell out of flavour with Sutter. Sutter wants his backup to be his best practise player and have the mindset to unseat Kiprusoff. That's why Sauve is gonna be gone, and why McLennan won't be back here.
