He is what he is. Definitely not underrated, and I don't think many people are overrating him. He needs to tighten up on defense, gain faceoff skill, and continue to produce.

Low 40s on faceoffs just won't do for a top 6 guy who the team is going to rely on to push the play. Also, for the number of shots he takes, his possession is unattractive. Finally, he is averaging nearly a giveaway per game this season.

I have no doubt that be would be there in points with Laine, Marner and Matthews, but these rookies on pace to better seasons than Eichels rookie season.

Eichels could become the best of them all, but right now all we have to compare is rookie seasons.

If he can find a way to put in consistent effort he'll easily be a top 5 guy offensively

Jack with the coast to coast for the OT winner. Definitely overrated...

I would agree that people put way too much importance on it, like to judge Eichel's worth on his faceoff ability is ridiculous when there's so much else to judge a player on. Though I wouldn't say that it doesn't matter. I would say it matters more in the playoffs. It's definitely something he should work on.

Good timing, he went from not moving to blowing past 3 Nashville players in 2 strides. That shot was incredible.

Eichel started off the sequence like a wounded animal. He skated so slow up the ice fooling Nashville then accelerated into the zone and did his thing.

He has the potential to be a top5 player in this league,
skating is beautiful, effortless, soft hands, great shot, 6'2, +200.

But he isn't now and isn't close.
My issues with him have been his effort level, consistency in games and defensive play. Injury can't be blamed on those.

There's a lot of holes in his game, but his ceiling is quite literally through the roof.

This thread does a disservice to players who are actually underrated like Chris Tanev, Blake Wheeler, Tyler Toffoli, etc. Eichel was hyped up as a generational talent by some less than 18 months ago and is still hyped by some as the 2nd best u-21 player in the world. I don't know in what world that constitutes being underrated.

To be fair about it, he did miss 2 previous shots completely and this is a pretty bad goalie. It's going to take production like this to be the solid player he was projected to be.

As I said in my last post, his main focus should be on the defense. I don't think he's being under or overrated yet.

His backchecking effort was absolutely atrocious on the first Nashville goal. I hate these threads. Just let on ice play do talking not a pissing match between Leaf and Sabre fans this will turn out to be.

If the injury is still nagging him than yes, effort, consistency, and defensive play can be blamed on that.

And this isn't even him skating at 100%. Eichel's a freak athlete with a disgusting amount of talent. It's a shame he hasn't been healthy this year.

He has 21 points in 26 games, not bad.

He did come back from a long injury.
