McJesus still caused a management change, coaching change, and a culture change. Without McJesus the Oilers defense would still be in tatters. he only plays 1/3 of the game, but it's amazing what a player of McDavid's caliber can do for the morale for the rest of the team.

They have never been the same since Cooke/Barrie and that game 7 a few years ago.

It's a team sport. Outside of his last twilight performance with Boston, his playoff production was excellent. Leadership is an exaggerated concept. To gain the reputation on HF and in the media, you basically have to a) be on a very good team, b) not implode under pressure, c) win a championship, d) be an above-average/great player.

They have two #2 defensemen and then two other NHL caliber defensemen.

Carried the franchise to 1st round exits.

If Iginla is a good leader someone like Joe Thornton is Mark Messier

Excellent? It was pathetic for someone who at times was one of best regular season players in the league.

Sure in a vacuum it looks respectable but it really isn't when you dig deeper he really was quite bad especially in late moments in a series, I'll never forget him getting destroyed by a 38 year old Jeremy Roenick

It's one thing to believe how bad Roy was when we thought he could have been doing a better job, but in the aftermath of his exit, and the overwhelming evidence that he was doing a pretty good job with what he had, it's actually quite amazing that the narrative continues.

The team last year was equally bad to the team this season, and yet we were in the playoff race all the way up to a week or two before the end. His first season was almost miraculous to have done what he did. They didn't deserve to be in the playoffs much less win the most difficult division in the league. And yet, Roy was the problem. Oh well. He left and he seems to have been justified in doing so. He'll get another shot if he wants it, and he'll prove he can do it
The coach they loved told this team that he didn't believe they could win games right before the season, no **** they're playing like they know they're going to lose in every match. The psychological state the locker-room was left in after Roy's departure would've ensured that anyone but one of the most respected coaches of all time would've lost the vets on this team...even if we didn't have some historically lazy players or some very mercurial guys who had a good bond with Roy that kept them playing hard.

I think Roy was a great man manager, even if he sucked at the x's & o's, but the way he left this team is more responsible for this clusterf*** of a season than Bednar's shortcomings...especially with Bednar having so little time to settle in with his team and get to know them before the losses started piling up. A fact supported by our improved play since the bye week, even though Barrie went down in this time.

I remember a time when the Avs and Flames were used as examples of successful quick rebuilds as compared to the Oilers. I knew those teams were pretenders back then and they still are. They'll need a lot more time to escape the funk of lottery.

Don't know if its been mentioned yet but the gap between Colorado (30th) and Winnipeg (28th) is as big as the one between Winnipeg and Columbus (2nd). 20 points. That's *****ing insane.

At this point I'm fully expecting this team to be historically bad, only to lose the lottery and draft 4th OA. It's been that kind of season

Pretty simple. Their D is not even good when healthy.

- Sakic has been awful. Drafting has been meh, asset management terrible, free agent signings worst of all. Joe's probably already looking around the league for another 37-year old he can give a 3-year deal to.
- Bednar worst coach in NHL. Joe Sacco 2.0 right here.
- No depth at forward. Duchene, MacK, Landeskog, Rantanen and that's all. Not good enough.
- Defensive group is terrible. EJ is our best player on D and he gets injured every year. We got Barrie and Zadorov.. which makes total of 3 NHL defenseman on Avs roster.

Sakic should be "promoted" to another job inside the organization asap, give GM job to someone with experience.

Why is Bigras in the AHL? He would be better than 4 or 5 of their current defenseman.
