Should we pursue Nolan?

His return is "imminent" according to tsn.ca.

He could help stabilize our team and could give us some punch on the second line. We could use Bure's salary to offset some of what we would have to pay him. He is also mean as nails and I like that!!!

Calgary, Ottawa and San Jose are said to be in the hunt right now. That being said, I doubt he would command a ton of money.

He'll go to Calgary, Ottawa or San Jose. Los Angeles is not a preferred destination for him...

...now TED on the other hand...

The only reason I say no is because adding a guy coming off a long-term injury and putting him on the most injury plagued team of the last decade does not sound like it would have a good outcome.

The Kings have to pay Bure in full. He doesn't come off of the payroll just because he's injured. You're confusing the payroll (cold cash spent) with the cap (league-imposed spending boundary).

Damn that's a bummer. Think the PA would at least have negotiated that one in.

Not saying yer right or wrong, but does insurance not cover some if not all of his salary?

Thanks for asking. What I've heard in the past is that the top 5 highest-paid players on every team need to be insured. After that, it's up to the teams if they want to insure more players, but rarely does that happen. Bure's $1.5M wouldn't qualify as one of the Kings' top 5 salaries (Roenick, Demitra, Norstrom, Miller and Conroy are all higher, not to mention Frolov and Visnovsky), so the Kings weren't forced to insure him and most likely didn't (especially since the Kings have never implied that insurance would kick in).

I would "Inquire" about Nolan. If he was interested and would come in at below Bure's cap figure. I would take the chance.

Selanne had major surgery on his knee and is playing great. maybe Nolan could do the same.

I agree. I'd take a chance on him. The only thing is that the Kings probably don't look particularly desirable at the moment. If Nolan signs with someone other than San Jose, I'd have to think that he'd pick a stronger team, such as Dallas. If he would sign with the Kings anyways, though, I'd welcome it. As you pointed out, Selanne has been a force this season, disproving a lot of people who thought that he and his knee were washed up. Nolan is a tad younger.

Wouldn't happen. He'll go to a contender.

He's more than likely going to torment us in SJ unless the Kings overpay. Who knows, maybe this is the move DT's been waiting to make, but I doubt it.

But frankly, we need more defensive help. He's good as a toughminded power forward so it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world, but as a two-way forward who could provide us with defensive stability on the PK? He turns 34 in two weeks and hasn't played in a while, so he'll need time to get into game shape.

that said, I'll be pretty surprised if he winds up anywhere other than SJ.

I'd rather get Roberts from FLA.

He's got one more year after this at 2 mil.

I was thinking he'd be a good pickup too, but I don't know if I want him on the books next year.

Two words: Hell no

Hmmm, okay a few more...we don't need another player with injury issues IMO.

Many people here said the same thing about Selanne last Summer.

Both... and both have had fairly good seasons, particularly Selanne, though.
