I just feel a break out year coming and assuming we bounce back to a bottom 10 instead of bottom 5 team, with the growth of big Z will be all around. I could easily see him putting up 30 points next year logging 22minutes a night and developing more confidence/swagger. Even if he stays at what he was the second half of the year next year I would argue that isn't far off 3.9mil per. I get being hesitant, but I'm one who would prefer to offer medium size contracts for long term to help us out in the future.

There is an argument to be made for locking him up long term on a friendly AAV. Especially if you believe that he's going to end up being worth more than 4m. But for Z, I think he may want a bridge deal for less than that to give himself an opportunity to earn more on his next contract, which hopefully will be for 6+ years.

If it were me in Sakic's shoes, I'd offer 8 years now. But if I were on the other side of the table, I'm not sure I go for that.

People rarely look up shot attempt stats through specific dates. It's generally a per season basis. The main boards thread and my memory of checking hockeystats daily reminded me of how much better Zadorov appeared to be as the season went on with regards to CF%. So I decided to do what any hard working man would do. I looked it up.

A little treat for the advanced stats lovers out there who tend to not be high on Zadorov due to his career/full season totals.

October to Jan 1
CF% 44.39 (6th among Avs D)
CF% REL TM: -2.05
TOI per game: 18:01

Rest of season:
CF% 52.06 (1st among Avs D)
CF% REL TM: +3.04
TOI per game 20:43

That's a pretty crazy up trend within the season. Too bad that injury occurred because he may have ended up having a pretty successful full statistical season had he completed it all.

I highly doubt either party wants an 8 year deal right now. I'd bet it's a 2 year 2.5m AAV bridge deal. If we're lucky, he explodes and it bites us in the ass, but there are worse problems to have.

too true tucker. I've always been of the mindset that giving young players short contracts makes them work harder. Complacency can set in if you've got a developing player on a really long contract without proper discipline. Call it an extrinsic motivator for the player to earn a raise on his next contract

Yeah he was trending up big time. I think his last 17 games he was + in terms of Corsi. The more he plays the more he seems to get into the game.

What is this main board thread? I'm way out of it.

A trade value thread where non-Avs fans are saying that max value Zadorov will bring back is a late first and meh prospect.

That value actually sounds pretty close to me. Z isn't a top notch prospect and while he looked better towards the end of his season, he still hasn't put it all together. Realistically how much would you shell out for Nurse?

Z has more value to the Avs than anywhere else. When he turns the corner, then the value goes up. It hasn't quite happened yet.

Finally got around to updating this to include that Jets game, and a few other hits.

He has to be the hardest hitting defenceman in the NHL. Buff is the only other guy I can think of.

That is an awesome video. The way he can just rag doll guys like Perry and Ellis is a great example of the strength advantage he has over probably everybody in the league at this point.

If he can find a toolbox to put all those tools in on a consistent basis, he is going to be a monster in this league. Showed signs of it all coming together towards the end of last season, hopefully he dosn't miss a beat when he's healthy again next year and continues building on it.

I enjoyed that, 71.

It's nice to see (for the most part) a player who keeps his elbows tucked when he hits. Too many players follow through with their elbow/glove up high when delivering a hit, which often makes it a dangerous/dirty hit that would have otherwise been fine. Zadorov's not perfect in this respect, but he's better than many.

Hoping for another jump in development from him this upcoming season. The Avs could sure use it.

What I see in those highlights is a guy whose balance has improved every year. Early on it looked like he fell over almost every hit and left himself out of position. Now he's just laying dudes out and carrying on with the defensive play. I like it.

Small component of the defensive game but it seems like he's starting to put it together. Now give us some goals mate.

The way he just tossed Kane aside as though he wasn't even there and Zads was just retrieving any normal puck, still warms my heart.

Sakic directly told BSN at the draft that Z has already been given contract offer and they are waiting for his response.

Hopefully it's somewhere between long term and short term. 3-4 years.

Hopefully it wasn't an insulting offer. I cant imagine this place if Z bolts or goes through negotiation drama.

I won't watch a single Avs game this year if they lose Z.

A contract offer could literally be his qualifying offer, for all we know.

I'm not worried about losing Z, and plenty of time to get the deal done. Figure out a Duchene trade first, since its tough to multitask.
