If I had a 'Leafs fans navel-gazing' parody account to promote Leafs hate, these are exactly the kind of posts I'd make.

The Senators are completely spinning their wheels right now. And honestly, who can disagree with that? The attendance shows it. The fans don't take the Sens seriously. They do not believe Melnyk wants to do what it takes to win a cup.
I agree with everything here, but I didn't agree with the poster who said the fans have accepted mediocrity. Just because the team is spinning its wheels doesn't mean the fans are happy with it.

So I am incorrect about Ottawa's situation in regards to their owner?
Sens fans agree with me BTW. The attendance is crappy. The have lost faith the ownership really wants to win.
It's funny to see you trying to spin this as Leaf fan arrogance. The comments about his cap hit were everywhere here before the trade.

No. They are doing the talking with staying away more than in other years.

If you're not trying to win hockey games right now, I can certainly understand that perception.

As it is, he's the kind of guy that can close out close games.

Lots of reasons for that. Did you know a lot of government workers in Ottawa haven't been paid in quite some time?

Anyway, even if the building was full every night doesn't mean the team would be better. Bad coaching hires, bad drafting, bad trades and bad contracts to RFA' shave a lot to do with why Ottawa has been mediocre for the last ten years.

Even if they don't this year they just have a much better future than the Sens. Melnyk will have to shell out huge bucks to convince Karlson to stay.

I blame that more on Randy "What's a Timeout?" Carlyle. He played Phaneuf until the guy could barely breath.

Still shocked that a small market team like Ottawa were willing to take on a player of that contract who was already on the downswing.

True, I definitely saw him close the game tonight on that 4th goal.

How many blown leads this year?

Eh, the Leafs will likely walk away with nothing from the deal unless that 2nd round pick becomes anything. Still a great move by the Leafs clearing up the long term salary of his contract

When Phaneuf was in Toronto his contract is all everyone talked about. Yes I know he is not Ottawa's #1 Defenseman since he was playing as the #1 in Toronto, however I don't think that talk should change just because he is no longer a Maple Leaf.

This.

Phaneuf is terrible. So happy he is out of Toronto.

What's your point? That a rebuilding team that traded Dion for no immediate roster help, being only 3 points back is evidence that Phaneuf is good?

Leafs ended last season 14 points back of the sens.
