I really have had it with Maurice. The list of his warts just got to be too long to be outweighed by the excuses for this season. I'm beginning to think that we could make major improvements to the roster and he would still find a way to be just about .500.
I won't even bother to list them here now. Just the Pav elicity lately has pushed me over the edge.

I would fire Maurice today because Julien is available today. I would say 'sorry Mau, I was going to give you another year but things came to a head. Thanks for your service here and good luck in your future career on TV'. All very nice but, good-bye.

Kane is a having a good year, considering the injury and the fact he had no goals in his first twelve games. I think he is still capable of scoring 30 again in this league if he can stay off the IR.

He is what he is. Too bad the Sabres only have him for one more year before UFA. That diminishes his value substantially.

I'm guessing Kane takes a pay cut to play in Vegas!

Lebrun saying that the Stars are talking to the Pens about Fleury. They'd be a perfect landing spot for him - unfortunately for us in the Central.

Would have >$16M in goalies. Wonder how they'll manage their cap space.

Eaves is going to be nice trade deadline bait. I like Eaves, he's a total pro, but he'll be overvalued.

The Stars have guys like Hemsky and Janmark who haven't played all year. Add in Guryanov who might be ready next year and Eaves is more than replaceable.

Would have to think one goes the other way for the Pens to expose in the draft. I'd think Vegas would have to take one of Lehtonen or Niemi considering who else would be available.

Trade Lehtonen or the other guy back with a decent roster player or a mid-range pick, and that gives both clubs a goalie to expose and one to protect.

This would be doing Pittsburgh quite a favor if MAF waives to go to Dallas. Pens could take back Lehtonen's $5.9M and buy him out this summer...straight up. They'd be nuts not to do it.

Why would the Penguins want anything to do with either of Lehtonen or Niemi? Or the Golden Knights, for that matter. That's a lot of money owed to a reclamation project.

The Stars might need to buy one out.

I don't think Fleury's value is nearly as low as Lehtonen's. Even if the Penguins are desperate to keep Murray.

I'm guessing Fleury has already waived to go to Dallas. According to Cap Friendly he has to list 18 teams he can be traded to. Dallas would have been a fashionable choice on July 1st, I'd think.

(I actually have no idea why he's expansion exempt though--that sure sounds like an NTC, to me.)

Yandle just got fined for "the Melker":

Wonder if that mean Karlsson got a warning. Yandle's was a little more egregious.

M.A.F. was very good. He may still be very good, but my sense is that if he goes to the Stars, he will be another chapter in their tale of expensive goaltending woe.

In that sense, I agree with you. The Stars WOULD be the perfect landing spot for him.

Here, I disagree, and say, fortunately for us in the Central.

Dallas is going to have a bunch of cap space after this season, and I expect that they are going to go on a UFA spree to try to build around their core. Their competitive window is pretty much right now, but they've had a disappointing season. They are likely going to have to overpay to build that roster through free agency, but don't have much choice.

I think they would be unwise to try to load up this season. Like the Jets, they are really not that close to being a playoff team. Ideally, they should be sellers rather than buyers.

Jiri Hudler agrees.

I expect Sharp and Eaves to be gone for sure, and one of their goalies at some point because it has to be done. Nill is going to have an interesting deadline. Does he move on Fleury? Or does he wait until the summer and bid on Bishop, Darling? What about Halak? Gonna be fun!

If they really want an established goalie, it makes sense to move for Fleury now, if they like him. It would be a move for next season, not a run for this year. They could wait for Ben Bishop to hit the market as well, but you're risking that he'll choose somewhere else.

Fleury would be a bit of a risk. He has a good track record, but he's 0.906 this season and will be 33 next season. They run the risk of having another year or two of very expensive, sub-par goaltending in Dallas. Still, they might not have many options. If Hellebuyck can't carry the mail, it makes more sense for the Jets to splurge on a goalie because they don't have much tied up in goalie salary after this season.

In any case, Dallas has to do something because they have been worse than the Jets this season and this is the prime of their core players' careers. Next season they'll have >$33M in salary cap space tied up in their top-3 forwards (Benn, Seguin and Spezza) and their goalies. That squeezes the rest of the roster, and they are in "win now" mode.
