Harkins with two goals. Seems to be fitting in just fine. Could be in for a good year next year.

Lemieux was good in his ATO last year, now look at him. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Harkins isn't on an ATO. He signed an ELC.

Actually he is, his ELC starts in 2017-18.

I think Harkins gets undervalued a bit around here. He was seen as a 1st round talent at his draft. He's a smart guy whose game might be more suited to the pro game. I'm looking forward to seeing how he does next year. Same thing for Spacek. Also Lemieux was really starting to come on before his Injury so it will be interesting to see how he fares next season.

Lemieux needs to learn to stay out of the box. If he can't cut his PIMS in half he should never have an NHL future.

The issue with Harkins for me is his quickness, skating and pace of play. He seems to have improved. If he can continue to improve and get his skating and pace to an NHL level, I think he has a chance of being a bottom 6 forward in the NHL. But he seems like the type who'll need another 2-3 years of development at the AHL level.

He also needs to learn how to play hockey at the pro level

Is his skating or pace below that of a 20 year old Lowry?

JYP was eliminated from Liiga playoffs losing game 7 today 5-1. Niku played his worst game of the season at the worst possible time. Made horrible passes the entire game and lost his men constantly on our end and was solely responsible for the first goal:

Watching both in jr. and develoment camps and Penticton, Harkins is ahead of Lowry at similar stages. That is an area that needs to improve though and if he can get better hands that will help a lot as well.

Lots of similarities beween the two of them,

So Harkins could replace Lowry in the future if we lose Lowry in the ED?

Simpe answer is yes, although the timing doesn't work and it is could he, not will he.

Much like it took Lowry some time to get to this point it will for Harkins too. The defensive acumen and awareness are similar , the understanding the game in the way being a players/coaches son does is the same.

Both are focused and professional beyond their years and have that oveallhockey instinct. Lowry is more physical and meaner but Harkins really positions himself well in all zones. He is a better skater than Lowry was when he finished in Swift Current and a better passer.

I expect Harkins to put in at least 2 years in the AHL , which when paired with a couple oftraining off seasons will quickenhis game pace and improve his skating, which isn't terrible but needs to be elevated to make him a factor as 3/4 C.

No but Harkin looked pretty good late last season with the Moose also on his ATO

Harkins is also a smarter and more skilled player than Lemieux.

True, but the point is that these samples are to small to get a real sense of how the player will do in the AHL in the future

Agreed they are too small. Looking forward to seeing what he can do over a full season.

Small samples are not defining but are promising.

How promising will depend on how the future goes...

If he wasn't Claude Lemieux's son, I'm not sure that Brendan Lemieux have so many expectations placed upon him. I hope he one day can mature into a bottom 6 forward for the Jets, but I'm not holding my breath.

Absotively.

He has potential though and he has another couple of years to figure it out.
