Regardless of what "East Coast Bias" says I'd still take him over the current crop of RHD we have.
Is Ekman-Larsson coming with him to carry him?

So we're trading assets for a guy who would not clearly be our best RHD. And we're going to have to pair him with McD (which won't happen) so McD can carry him around now?

Not really keen on trading asset for a rental (if they did trade for Boyle, I'd be open to signing him for a few years). I'd much rather see Gorton make a move for a young RD that can make an impact later this season and fully next season, like Honka, Schmaltz, or Wood.

I mentioned it early on in the season, but getting that type of player with less fatigue could make a big difference in the playoffs. It worked out really well for Boston with Torey Krug breaking out against us in Torts' last year. It's the same reason that I'm ok with Buch getting lesser ice time right now because he'll be needed to elevate his game come April.

The problem with trading for defense is that it's going to cost a premium to add the type of Dman that AV will play over Girardi, Staal or Klein. He doesn't rest them and Clendening plays only when any of them are seriously hurt.

If there's no deal then there's no deal. Trade Klein (hopefully he continues to improve from earlier in the season) for a good value and see what happens.

I agree, but you have the 'just tweak the D and this team is a Cup contender' mentality, which I don't see happening.

Even without changing the defense, all it takes to push this team back into contention is .925 Lundqvist rather than .905 Lundqvist. In a long playoff run that's a difference of 12-13 goals against.

This team is already a contender. There are obvious ways to improve this team but the fact is it is one of top 6 teams in the league and Gorton showed he could improve this team simultaneously short term and (not hurting) long term. I'm ignoring E Staal gaffe, hopefully it was a lesson well learned.

Whatever happened to Jason Dickinson? A lot of guys here wanted him last year when the Rangers were scouting Dallas. Anybody?

I really like the idea that someone mentioned of absorbing an expensive contract for a pick or young player. LA needs cap room. Maybe its something of that nature?

Selling Lindy short
let him fully recover from hip op
and then decide if worth keeping or flipping based on his max ability to perform

like BB, but he left here cause he wanted "more significant role" and AV said it's 4th line or bust

w/Nieves coming next year, what we have/can expect to pick up, it should all be about flipping the more senior vets for assets, with an eye to use those assets for D improvements + cap space

It'll be fun adding a legit top line player next season to already deep top-9.

Still like the player and he'd be someone I'd target for sure.

Know the Rangers liked him before his draft too. Clark mentioned him by name as someone who had an off draft year who they were hoping would fall to them.

Lindberg's just getting his game back together. I'd rather stick with him too. He's younger and we don't owe Boyle a thing at this point.

Don't think we're going to do anything major at the deadline but taking a step back by dumping Klein for the sake of adding a pick seems pretty dumb to me. Which I've seen mentioned here lately.

AV preferred Boyle as a wing, which wasn't a compliment. Don't think we are interested in him. Think he makes much more sense for a team like Edmonton.

I'm getting antsy.

I really want Shatty sooner rather than later as in the deadline rather than offseason. It might cost a bit now but if it's not too crazy I say we pounce.

The West is not strong this year other than the Wild for most part. We just need to figure out a way to get out of the East which to me means getting out of Metro. Shatty would be huge to help us vs either Caps or Pens and for sure vs Jackets. Not worried all too much about anyone from Atlantic especially with Shatty. It's not crazy or nuts to think we could do major damage and go on one of those fun playoff runs if we had Shatty. We have some pieces the Blues would want(ie..A #1 pick plus a Zucc despite my luv and all of our luv for our Norwegian dwarf and we would miss him terribly)

Please GMJG..figure out a way to get Shatty withought giving up too much. The Cup is not insurmountable this year especially if we went thru the Atlantic.

I trust and have faith in you Jeff....

I wouldn't have signed him. Thought he looked lost while playing for Michigan. He might play though. My expectations are still low.

Had a whiskey - at long last

Some possible Deadline moves which I could seen but not totally behind all of
  • Kevin Klein and Brandon Halverson + something more to Dallas for Patrick Sharp + ev rights to Nish (depends on the NYR add). Yes - this move is preceded by Sather, Dolan, JG and AV meeting in the stands at NYR practice and The Dark Side prevails...
  • Brandon Pirri to LA for Tom Gilbert and a prospect/pick
  • Matt Puempel to Florida or Vancouver for a very late pick
  • Adam Tambellini for Mike Ribeiro plus a later pick and /or mid level prospect (Nashville as budget team saves $ and maybe pays it with a 4th/5th)
  • NYR 2017 3rd for Cody Fansson (our likely RD rental)
  • NYR 2018 3rd plus Nik Jensen to Arizona for Shane Doan (annual old man rental)

Zucc - Stepan - Nash
Kreider - Zib - Sharp
Grabner - Hayes - Miller
Doan - Lindberg - Fast
Vesey - Buch (AV Rule #1 - All rookie fwds must do due diligence & sit in the stands for the playoffs so they are there as insertable jokers looking young in the pressbox)

McD - Holden (yikes)
Staal - Fransson
Skjei - Girardi
Clendening

Gilbert + Ribeiro would be waived => in Hartford and used as playoff callups as in The Black Aces

Hank
Rantaa

Bigger action in the offseason
Warrior Dan Girardi is bought out
Fast is likely gone to Las Vegas in the bloody expansion draft (or ... Nash?)
Rick Nash with salary retained is likely dealt in the offseason (Vegas ?)
If the right deal is out there, perhaps Zucc can be dealt
Eventually a Trade for a #2 RD in Jakub Trouba
Likely Sign #3/#4 RD in Shatty (UFA)
Sign NCAA college FA Fwd Zach Aston-Reese (Northeastern) plus one of the FA defenders Neal Pionk (Minnesota Duluth) or Daniel Brickley (Minnesota State)
Strengthen organizational depth signing some long shot Euros and undrafted junior players
Look at taking a flyer on Evgeny Dadonov if there is any $$ available (not likely)
Zib resigned long term at around $5M
Fire AV. Always that sound in my head.

Future league moves
Carolina (4 sale) moved to Quebec
Arizona (Arena issues) moved to Seattle
One of Houston or Kansas City are new teams (#32)
