He just completely stopped even caring about the puck. All intent on that one. Terrible.

Big mistake, he should sit for at least a few. Refs should have shown him the gate.

Not sure if you're serious... this is as deliberate as you can get.

Ok. But it really doesnt matter. All the context you need is right there in that short clip. Not complicated. Nothing Spurgeon did would warrant that.

Nyquist was trying to get the puck from Stewart and Spurgeon gave him a cross check to the back. Doesn't warrant a spear to the face

Aiming for the guy's face with your stick is pretty darn dirty. An inch more and he hits Spurgeon's eye. You have to send a message with this suspension. Just flat out reckless and dangerous.

You're right. The video does make it worse.

He was mad that Spurgeon gave him a little shove from behind so he speared him in the face.

Looked like a text book spear to me, but it's so seldom called, and it wasn't as obvious in realtime. Big picture is that Spurgeon still has his eyes, and is back out on the ice.

I don't know how he didn't get a 5 minute penalty for that. But, I also think he didn't mean to get it where he did. When he was in the penalty box, you could see him saying: what just happened?" And, he was looking at the replays.

Still, it deserves a suspension.

Holy ****!

That might be the dirtiest play of the season. How he doesn't get anything less than 10 games would be a disgrace. Could you imagine if he hit him in the eye with that? His career would be over, and he didn't miss by much./

Make sure you watch the full video, not that terrible gif that doesn't show how bad it was.

He got cross checked in the small of the back from behind into the boards he got up and retaliated. He wasn't trying to hit him in the face but he did. He should get a game or two.

The full video shows how bad it actually is, that's a 5-7 gamer for sure I'm thinking.

Absolutely disgraceful. Refs are incompetent boobs to not toss him. Should be a long suspension. That crap needs to be eliminated from the game.

Luckily Spurgeon got stitched up and is back in the game.

showed the reply in intermission... you could see Nyquist look at him before he did this gross play... it was thought out and he just plain old lost it

I assume you're not saying there actually would be something that warrants what he did.

He wasn't trying to hit him in the face? Seriously?! He absolutely was aiming for his face!

Pretty clearly intentional. Should have been 5 and a game. Only question is the suspension length.

But, I will say this. This is what happens when referees let everything go these days. Players snap.

I never said it wasn't okay, sorry if it came off that way. Just wanted to see different angles in real time.
