Should be 10+ but won't be.

Intentional spear to the face, a few inches from the eye.

Zero excuse to not throw the book at him.

Really dirty. I'd expect 5+ games and it would be fair.

They show him turn around and look directly at Spurgeon while doing it. Yes, he was trying to hit him in the face.

Doesn't
that change the fact he was trying to hit him. And made deliberate contact with his stick blade and it hit him in his face. I'd be shocked if he's not suspended.

Exactly. Anyone who says he wasn't trying to do that did not watch the Wild feed intermission.

Agreed. So much worse IMO than a dirty hit. Dirty hits are obviously bad, but they are usually just a case of a guy trying to make a regular hockey play and failing/failing to adapt to a quick change (like a guy turning to the boards or moving to the side a bit). This was so far removed from anything you should be doing on ice, it's just despicable.

Next somebody will say that McSorley didn't mean to hit Brashear in the head.

Brutal, a completely intentional spear right to the face. Should get 10+ games IMO. He won't get that, but he should, you can literally take out an eye doing this. It will probably be 2-5 games, because the league tends to punish very lightly if the victim wasn't seriously injured, but they SHOULD punish more on the action/intent, and for that 10 or even 20 games seems right.

Things are going to get ugly in the 2nd. Gotta imagine the Wild are going to make him answer for that.

Exactly. All evidence says every bit of it was intentional.

Yeah, nobody tries to hit someone in the face in hockey? LOL, uh, ok. It was clearly an intentional stick to the face. To argue otherwise is silly.

Bizarre. Nyquist isn't known for that. No excuses whatsoever. Glad to see spurgeon is back. don't even know what else to say, I usually try to be optimistic but Jesus that's awful.

That was disgusting, I mean WTF?

I would be fine with Chris Stewart grabbing him, pounding him into the ice and then seeing him get handed a 5-game suspension.

What a dumb, dumb move.

Oh yeah. Premeditated & under the visor. No doubt looking to just give him a bit of a facewash with his stick but ya just dont do that period ever.

People snap. Nice guys/gals lose it temporarily.

He pretty clearly lost it and stabbed a guy in the face. Jabbed the blade right under his visor to be sure. Mad as hell.

...He wasnt trying to hit him in the face but ... made a deliberate contact with his stick in his face?

??

How do you try not to do something and proceed to do it deliberately?

The tougher Wings are probably looking at each other like: man, why do we have to fight when he's the one who messed up?

What are the Wild gonna do? Send Stewart after him? That's like going squirrel hunting with a Scud missile. Spurgeon's buddy Scandella can fight, but Wild can't lose another Dman with Brodin and Dumba out already.

Best to leave it. The league will take care of it. Normally clean player who lost his mind for a second. Too bad the officials didn't catch it on ice.
