McDavids heating up again....Which means Sid and the rest of the guys better keep scoring or he blows this wide open within a few weeks.

I could see the award split looking like Richard and Lindsay for Crosby, Art Ross and Hart for McDavid and Norris for Burns. I still think Crosby will win the Art Ross, but him not pounding teams like the Avalanche or Coyotes when McDavid was on his bye week could very well hurt him.

I could see McDavid winning the Art Ross and Crosby getting the Hart. Of course if Burns catches them both he could sweep them too. I think that McDavid has to win the scoring race by at least the number of games Crosby missed in order to get the Hart nod over him.

EDM's been terrible for a while. If McD wins the Art Ross and they make the playoffs he will absolutely also win the Hart.

McDavid puts up 3 points tonight. Going right back at Sid and retakes the lead!

This is crazy because McDavid has maintained the lead since basically the beginning of the season. Great race.

I don't think anyone is catching McDavid/Crosby anymore.

The race is getting more exciting. I'd still vote for Sid, due to his experience. But McDavid is proving to be as good as advertised.

Past is not a guaranteed predictor of the future.

But that said.

Pens 56 games played, 26 games remaining. Oilers 58 games played, 24 games remaining.

McDavid has played 8 more games than Crosby.

Crosby has 1.24 points per game, McDavid 1.11 points per game.
https://www.sportingcharts.com/nhl/s...-leaders/2016/

26 games x 1.24 points = 32.24 points + 61 = 93 points.

24 games x 1.11 points = 26.64 points + 63 = 90 points.

It should be close, absent injuries, but given Crosby's history including strong finishes the smart betting money would be on him. If Crosby had hit that average and played those six missed games he would end up with 101 points and it wouldn't be that close. I know, if, if, if. But just saying that Crosby is playing on the higher level so again, smart money would be on him down the stretch.

You're forgetting the Kunitz factor. He'll cost Crosby 10-20 points easily, if he stays on his line until Sheary gets back. It's almost like Kunitz tries to give the puck back to the opposition in the offensive zone.

McDavid has proven that he's not consistent enough to blow the race wide open. He scores in bunches and this could just be one of those spurts. Not to mention, Crosby's been better than him this season. Who's to say Sid doesn't catch fire and lay waste to the competition?

If the Oilers make the playoffs, McDavid get the Hart without a question IMO. The Penguins are so deep that they'd be a playoff/elite team even without Sid.

On another note, it bums me out as an Oilers fan thinking about how the Pens have had two different eras over the past 30 years where they've had two generational superstars up front for protracted periods (Lemieux, Jagr, Crosby, Malkin), while we've only had one (Gretzky, McDavid).

Truly, they are the most storybook franchise in the history of the NHL (all things considered).

I don't think it's as cut and dry as the Oilers making the playoffs. If Crosby is within a couple of points and keeps scoring at the rate he's going, he'll get it I think.

Go Crosby!!! He's due for a bit of a hot streak here. Put me down for Sid the Kid.

Mcdavid does not really score in bunches. His production is fairly consistent . Hasn't gone 3 games without a point in his career

Geno is playing like a man possessed. Don't count out the 101st best NHL player ever just yet.

For some reason I keep thinking that was broken but I just checked the gamelogs again and nope. He has never in his career so far gone 3 straight games without registering a point. Did Gretzky even do that? His game logs only go back to 87-88, but checked Crosby's first two seasons and he had exactly one 3 game pointless drought in each of his first two seasons.
