Wonder if the refs go with a 3 or 10 game suspension. Didn't seem to be any real damage done, but you just don't see players intentionally whack officials with their sticks. Wouldn't be surprised if they go for 10 games.
I don't think the refs hand out the supplemental discipline.

Is there any precedent at all of a player getting straight nothing after getting tossed for abuse of official?

Even Peca got hammered and it was clear the ref messed that call up.

NHL takes these suspensions more seriously then department of players safety.
I agree it doesn't matter. I think 10 games is justified. I don't think there was any intent to injure, so 20 games is too much, I think, but 10 games fits with the rules.

i'll say he gets 5 games

very dumb. not condoning what he did but not surprised he was frustrated with the refs. especially the way they were handling faceoffs

Wideman got 20 it was lowered in arbitration he ended up sitting 17 games I think so he got paid for seven of those games.

They'll throw the book at him, that's unacceptable.

I wonder if the ref did something earlier to get under his skin.

Some of them do go nuts on authority (the ref yelling at Burns to retreive the puck a few days ago)

I don't think it would stick, but "injure" is pretty vague. It was a sharp enough slash to bruise. A bruise is an injury.

I'd be shocked if he doesn't get 10 to send a message, and wouldn't be surprised if he got 20. Unlike most other incidents, there is exactly 0% explanation that this wasn't intentional. "The officials were incompetent, biased *******s tonight", while true, isn't going to curry any favor with the league.

It seems to perfectly fit the criteria for 10. hard to say he had intent to injure. It was a slash, but not a hard one.

Cujo tripped and took out a ref and only got 10 and a game.

Apparently hitting a ref according to tsn is an automatic 10 games so he'll prob be getting at least that

It is likely an indication of the level of NHL officiating in recent seasons.

According to NHL rules, it has 3 different levels of suspension for severity of the abuse of official. According to the replay, it looked like a level 2 - 10 games suspension. It is a deliberately attempt to slash a linesman. To me.. 3 games suspension for accidental abuse in which was unintentional in that accidently hit a referee or to break up a fight in which was accidently unintended which was intended toward the player or a shove off from the ref to free himself from the hold. 10 games is for intentional attempt and 20 games for serious abuse in which physically harm the official. It reminded me of a Mogliny's indecent which used his hand to slap the head of the referee in which was slapped with 10 games suspension.

I'm curious to see who gets suspended longer, this or Nyquist. Keeping in mind that it's a different NHL department handing out the suspension.

I'm betting this play here, but I've been wrong before. I will say that Nyquist was much worse, on that I'm sure we can agree.

The linesman deserved it. What an atrocious game from the stripes.

There isn't a "just a game" option for abuse of an official. It's a league suspension not a DoPS suspension so it can't be compared to regular discipline.

Probably 10 games. Stupid play made out of frustration at the joke that was the refs tonight.

Vermette is probably thrilled he gets to spend 10 games far away from Kevin Bieksa though.

10 games minimum, intent was there, he even stops and thinks about it. No intent to injure so probably not 20, but league needs to step in strong and show you never touch a ref, ever. Just mind-numbingly stupid.

Totally braindead play and well deserving of what he's about to get.
