If everyone celebrated like Crosby this league would suck. Gotta have a little flavor.

I do like Sid's muted celebrations though. Because when he does give a big fist pump or a "F&*% yeah!!" you know the goal meant something to him or was special in some way

No, he did everything he could to stop one of the best players in the world. Sometimes there's nothing you can do against that kind of skill.

Scheifele's failure to pick up Crosby going to the net was the more egregious error.

I hope we see Malkin as the true undisputed #1 center of a team before he's 35 so the world can see how great he is.

Being on a team with Crosby is a double-edged sword for him. Gives you a great team due to having two franchise centers, but he's living in Crosby's shadow.

Probably won't happen due to his NMC though. I guess he likes the shade.

He basically "defected" to come play for the Penguins. He has mentioned plenty of times how much he loves playing in Pittsburgh. That if he ever decides to hang them up in the NHL then he will simply go home and play for his hometown Magnitogorsk or just outright retire.

My guess is that unless he has a Jagr magnitude of fall out, you'll just have to accept he will always be in the "shade".

I hate to say it but if Malkin was Canadian, he would get so much more recognition from the media. It's still baffling that he could be left off of the top 100 of all time. There wont be much of a debate by the time he retires though.

Yeah to each their own i prefer modest players, but boring is the last word i`d use about Sidney Crosbys game. Its art.

Not really, he was right on Crosby. He just didn't anticipate Malkin being able to make a pass like that from the position he was in, nobody did except Crosby.

What about his Hart Trophy in 2012?

And so much more hate from Hfboards, for that matter. No excuses would be made for him after a bad game, playoff series etc.

Yep. Hockey got unlucky with crosby being the face of the NHL. you want an exciting player to expand the game. Not some boring robot like sid.

Well of course he's a great player.

Stanley Cup champion 2009, 2016
Art Ross Trophy 2009, 2012
Calder Memorial Trophy 2007
Conn Smythe Trophy 2009 (First Russian player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy)
Hart Memorial Trophy 2012
NHL First All-Star Team 2008, 2009, 2012
Ted Lindsay Award 2012
World Championship All-Star Team 2007, 2010, 2012
World Championship Best Forward 2012
World Championship Most Valuable Player 2012
2nd fastest Russian to score 500 NHL points (413 games) behind Alexander Ovechkin (373 games)
Most consecutive post season games with multiple points for the Pittsburgh Penguins – 6 games ( 9–23 May 2009)
First player since 1917–18 to score goals in each of his first six NHL games (first accomplished by Joe Malone, Newsy Lalonde and Cy Denneny in inaugural NHL season) (18 Oct – 1 November 2006)

I'm just of the opinion his career would have been better individual awards/recognition/stats wise if he was THE man. Stanley Cups would have of course depended on the team.

That was an unbelievable play. The calmness and presence of mind to get that second touch on the puck when it comes through Trouba's legs is unreal. Malkin is definitely #101.

No, not on this particular play. But you can't say that he is a garbage defender. Or you could say that, and be terribly wrong.

Okay. I'll rephrase. He took advantage of two players who played terrible defense.

That assist tonight was pretty ridiculous. Got completely overlooked because of the timing but he really undressed Trouba and then gave Sid a perfect pass.

Still probably the 2nd best player in the world when he's healthy.

Malkin had an all-world game tonight, and no mention of him at all on TSN. Oh brother..

Honestly, it's not just the Canadian media. If you haven't noticed the American media isn't too big on Russia right now. I wouldn't put it past the discrimination of Russian athletes from the sports media because of personal political issues towards Russia.

I honestly believe malkin doesn't care about being #2 behind Sid. I think he absolutely loves Sid, and he's also become a very beloved part of Pittsburgh culture himself. Aside from some media irritants, everyone loves Geno and he's had a ton of success here.
