Can an argument be made for anyone other than Hank?

I think you're right. Just Hank. Still too early to tell for anyone else on the team at the moment.

Among active players, maybe Jagr but I doubt his few years with us are enough to have his number in the rafters. I wouldn't really be comfortable with it.

Former Rangers? Since most of the 1990s players are up there already, it would be someone from decades ago. Greschner?

Ratelle#19, only a top 100 of all time. Get it up there...soon!

I feel like I'm lobbying the RRHF to get Rush in there. Oh wait...it happened.

McDonagh has a chance if he sustains his play for another 7-8 years with us.

If Stepan played another 8 years or so while remaining productive I'd think he'd have a shot.

Ratelle and Henrik are the only two. We'd have to win a Cup for anyone else to be considered, IMHO.

Tanner Glass, Dan Girardi, Ryan Callahan, A 1st round draft pick, Dylan McIlrath, just off the top of my head. Eric Staal gets consideration surely.

Hank 100%

Ratelle has been deserving for a long time now. So too Boucher, Cook and Johnson. Remains to be seen if they'll ever be honored.

Wildcard: if the Rangers win the Cup this year they will eventually retire 5 and 18 together in an amazing ceremony. Ten minute video of Staal cross-checking Ovechkin and his Caps goal. Eight minute video of Girardi grimacing in pain and his Sens goal. Then the banners go up and they bank pucks off their banners and past Hank's. So special.

Without a doubt....not sure how the people around this club can be so idiotic . Ratelle was first class ALL the way on and off the ice . I think many will enjoy this clip.....hope it is allowed . http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/d...-park-ratelle/

might as well put hanks up now.
realistically if Mcdonagh, Zucc, kreider, and stepan keep getting better/perform consistently for the rangers for 5-6 more years they have a shot

I don't think they do. They would need to improve greatly. And they would need to do it for another 10-12 years. And win some hardware —individual and a Cup(s).

Should really only be Hank at this point.

Teams need to cool it a bit on retiring numbers. It's great if the guy had a good long career for you, but you've only got 99 to choose from. The sport is going to be around and stay around for the forseeable future.

i think Zucc stepan and mcdonagh are attached to wining a cup.. they arent far and away leading players in their positions.

Kreider being a potential perennial 30-goal scorer with his size and physicality are special and could put him in the rafters

Prucha is a lock. Stupid Shanahan ruined his career.

Hank without a doubt. McDonagh if he wins a cup as captain and has a long Rangers career as the C. Stepan if he does something truly significant during our run to the cup (think WSH Game 7 goal but this time in the SCF ).

All others are extreme long shots.

Finally!!! Someone else agrees with me. #Retire25

Again, besides Hank, we need to win a cup or have a player like McD, Stepan, Miller have a long career with the Rangers and some great individual moments to get consideration. If McD captains the team for the next 10-12 years, he could get it.

As others have said, Lundqvist. He has to be a Top 5 Ranger of all time. I really can't make an argument for anyone else on the current roster.

Matt Puempel needs to do 12 justice. Between Eric Staal and Daniel Paille I'd consider retiring that one too just so I never have to see it again.

Hank is the only current player deserving of having his number retired. Don't really get cases currently being made for Zuke/Stepan/etc unless they have big contributions en route to a Cup. If they want to honor those guys, make a Hall of Greats or something at MSG. The bar for having a number retired should be higher than "Played pretty well". I could understand Zuke a little more than others with being undrafted and all he's done for the game and charities in his spare time, but I still don't think 36 should be retired (just yet).
