Alex Tanguay retires

Quote:

Drafted 12th overall by the Avalanche in 1998, Tanguay spent the majority of his career playing in Colorado.

Tanguay collected 283 goals, 580 assists and 863 points in 1088 games played across his 16-year NHL career. The 2001 Stanley Cup winner appeared in five consecutive Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Colorado Avalanche (1999-2000 to 2003-2004). While with the Avalanche,

Quote:

"I've been lucky enough to realize a childhood dream to play in the NHL for 16 years and, in looking to stay involved in hockey, I thought there was no better way than to be part of the expert panel at NHL Network," said Tanguay. "I'm looking forward to sharing my passion for the game with the fans."

I can't believe he's only 37. It feels like he's been in the league forever.

Huge hero for me in those days of the Avs.

And only 8 years older than myself. Ridiculous. Sad.

Although he won’t retire with a Stanley Cup to his name,

Fanrag is trash

Don't you know? When you play in Arizona, you get docked your Stanley Cups

He was my favorite player growing up. I was so pumped when the Flames got him. He had a PPG season that year I believe.

Damn, guess you know you're getting old when all of your favorite players from you childhood start to retire.

I want to get off the ride now.

Solid career, Reinprecht is the only one left from the '01 Avs still active.

Holy crap, Reinprecht is 40. 2001 doesn't seem like that long ago in so many ways even though it clearly is.

Props to Tanguay on a pretty awesome career. Was almost always in that tier of players that were very good but just flew under the radar.

I was a big Tanguay fan. Great wheels. He was one of my favorite "sleeper" picks in Fantasy Hockey for a while. Usually around a point per game and for whatever reason, people forgot about him...

One of the most underrated and solid players of the 2000s and even into the 2010s. Guy had a very very good career.

Was hoping he'd remember watching the end of Bourque's career on TV, and make his own run at a last-second Cup.

Playmaker, not a goal scorer. Not a heavy shooter. Didn't take penalties.

I would say it's justified. Doesn't detract from him being an awesome player in real life though.

Sustained unsustainable shooting percentage for his entire career.

Tremendous vision - he could thread the puck through any number of defensemen and make the impossible play.
