Worst Signings Of The Off-Season

What were some bad signings around the league? I'll nominate Ben Lovejoy from the Devils. Guy has been absolutely brutal for us. Look at some of the stats:

Out of Qualified Defenseman:
4th worst in CF%, 9th worst in CFRELTM%, 4 ES Points in 930 minutes, 6th worst Points/60

He's making a case to be one of the worst defenseman in the league honestly. And the Devils gave him a 3 year deal.

Everyone that watched the Pens knew Lovejoy sucked.

Andrew Ladd, maybe. He's turned it up but that contract is still atrocious.

Lovejoy had his moments, but his play - good AND bad - was overlooked once the team got on a roll. Most people knew Shero was signing him because of his experience.

Bennett plays well at times. He's a fine depth forward. Lovejoy has been brutal though

He's been "OK", but Backes' contract and NMC for where the Bruins are at as a franchise right now spells disaster.

Ladd was apparently playing hurt under Capuano, but yeah 7 years is way too long.

Eriksson hasn't been horrible but for $6 million he's been disappointing

...I know he was acquired in a trade not a signing, but someone gotta mention Andrew Shaw here...he's been brutal for the Habs and that 6-year deal makes him pretty much immovable...

I think the signing was a necessary evil, since we'd be worse off with a guy like Helgeson playing full time. If that were even possibly, but I will say this signing is turning out to be one of the worst for sure. If not for the fact that Hynes uses him like he's a legit #2 and he's still floating around on our top pairing with Andy Greene, while I'm not sure what was wrong with Severson and Greene playing together, that we need to sink the lineup even more with an anchor like Lovejoy on the top pairing.

I'm surprised more Devils fans don't think he's as bad as we do. There's also a common belief that he'd be good if he were a bottom pairing guy and I don't even think he really would be. I do think the team would be better off for it, if he was a bottom pairing guy though. And he would be at least much less of a liability.

I didn't realize he was this bad when we signed him, although Sullivan ran a system last year that was one of the most impressive I have seen in quite some time. Which his system is really the complete opposite of Hynes no-event system, where a game where we're outshot 35-26 is considered a good game or outshot 31-24 is considered a solid defensive effort these days.

Lucic might not be the worst this year but I think they will regret that one in a couple years.

The intimidation/physical factor does help. But boy is that contract going to kill us a few years down the line.

I always thought the last two contracts Lucic got as a RFA were overpayment.

I don't think he got a raise in AAV on this latest UFA contract, than what he made on his last contract though.

I think his contract is fine right now, will probably hurt later on though.

I'm very up and down on Milan.

I think he's helped more than he's hurt this year, but he has 6 more years with a full NMC.

It won't be fun pretty damn soon.

Lovejoy is playing way more than he should and usually not with somebody who can compensate for his weaknesses. Plus it's not like they gave him a ton of money or term.

I think the Backes and Ladd signings were far worse because of their terms. Lucic is up there too, depending on whether this is an early decline or just a down year. They better hope he's not on a Dustin Brown like trajectory.

For the Canucks its Jayson Megna.

Seriously.. he's a serious spur in the saddle for HF Van.

You will have your very own Ryan Callahan.
