Loui Eriksson - terrible signing by Jim Benning, only played well with the Sedin's on International skating rink, and the contract was incredibly long and expensive.

Were there any good signings last off season? Maybe Marchessault.

Sam Gagner. Has slowed down, but still a great signing for what his cap hit is.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who realizes this. You basically have to throw this season out for him, because Hynes is using him all wrong, as well as Moore. Both guys get way too much hate, and if they were being used correctly, they definitely wouldn't be hated as much and would likely actually be appreciated. Hynes puts way too much faith in the veteran guys.

Here's how it should be.

TOP PAIRING MINUTES
Merrill
Severson

TOP 4 MINUTES
Quincey - When he heals
Auvitu - If he ever gets called back up
Santini
Greene

BOTTOM PAIRING MINUTES
Moore
Lovejoy

Matt Irwin has been absolutely fantastic for Nashville. Signed to play in Milwaukee as a vet, ends up as a rock solid number 4.

All of Dean's moves

Teddy Purcell-AHL
Tom Gilbert-Traded
Michael Latta-Traded
Jeff Zatkoff-LOL
Zach Trotman-AHL

At least Jack Campbell has played well for the Reign.

Devils dans just trash Lovejoy cause he's not part of the future and he's a defensive defensman. We suck for a lot of reasons and he's way down the list. Plus he's a UFA after next year and isn't paid much the signing doesn't effect anything long term.

Lucic has been really inconsistent. But he's not the dumpster fire some are trying to set him up as.

That length still worries me. I'm not sure what the specifics are, but I hope there's some leeway on the back few years

Thomas Vanek is on pace for 67 points and is only being paid 2.4 mil. That seems like a good deal.

Radulov, Grabner, Gagner, Vanek and Seidenberg have all been very good signings off the top of my head.

Might be bad in a couple years but hes been ok this year. Don't regret the signing one bit.

You have to overpay for UFAs, its pretty simple.

Since the cap was implemented, other than Chara on his last deal, Hossa, perhaps if some of those Minnesota deals work out ultimately, has there been many long term, expensive deals to UFA who changed teams and it worked well?

Like say 5 years or longer and 5M or more cap hit? I am under the impression that the list is pretty small and there is just not as much value in those types of deals.

The list of those contract which turned out poorly I feel must be much longer.

All four of Ladd, Lucic, Backes and Eriksson are obviously integral to their teams success now and in foreseeable future. That explains why it wasn't enough to sign them at such high salary and for so long. All of them had to receive a NMC/NTC. It must be reassuring for fans of these teams to know that while many things will change in the coming seasons, they can always count on these 4 pillars of success.

Loui hasn't delivered as promised.

Nd given the Canucks situation if their team, that needed to get younger, giving Loui a NMC means they are protecting 3 swedes who are 32, 37 for the ED.

Thus they now have to sacrifice Hansen or granlund in a trade. I mean, the twins were already signed so nothing you can do.

But, they knew horvat had to be protected. Same with Sutter. Hansen as well give the year he came off. So, that left beartschi, granlund and youngster gaunce, and Rodin.

If the best case scenario happened and those youngsters all played well, Benning would then have to move someone to avoid losing a young player.

He should have accepted the situation of the team. Poor drafting for a period of 7 years killed the team. It will take time to rebuild. You can't fast forward it. Only if you get lucky with the draft and some unsigned young free agents.

Johnson for the Flames. He's been a great backup and his contract is cheap.

The length isn't an issue. He has a health condition, so it will be easy to put him on the LTIR if we feel like it, and then just move the contract to Arizona or whoever.

But honestly, I don't think Lucic is really in decline. This was a narrative around Lucic since Boston, but imo it was mostly the result of the Bruins declining. Lucic's rejuvenated play in LA proves this. As for him being inconsistent here, imo our team simply isn't a finished product yet. Lucic isn't the only slumping forward here (still 4th in team scoring), and if I'm right then we will see Lucic get progressively better as the team continues to develop and improve.

We shall see (but if I'm wrong we'll just do the LTIR thing)

I was like, man Brouwer isn't a great deal.
Then I remembered Ladd, Lucic and Eriksson all signed this summer.

He's no where near as bad as those contracts.
