Niederreiter ejected for hit on Sharp

This was a completely gutless hit on an unsuspecting player who just came back from a concussion. Ruff's comment on this is spot on "“I just saw a pretty dirty hit on Sharp. That is what I saw,” said Ruff. “You know, cut the guy’s knees out. Pretty tough.” This is intent to injure and should earn him at least a few games.

Yeah let's not show the moment before this when Nino is clipped by Faksa and has no chance of regaining balance in time to avoid hitting Sharp.

This thread is not going to go well for you.

Nino was tripped, lost his balance, and then had no way of avoiding Sharp. It was an accident.

Refs missed the trip causing Nino to lose his balance. Absurd that they give a five for this, and not Nyquist for a spear to,the face.
Ruff might want to look at the tape before he opens his yap. What was gutless was the slew foot.

You can clearly see in the 2nd video i posted Niederreiter's head is facing towards sharp the entire time and not the guy with the puck.

Uh. Why was he ejected? What a joke.

He shouldn't even have gotten a two-minute minor let alone five and a game.

Or the puck carrier behind him?

Not even close. All eyes are on the puck.

And lol @ saying he cut his knees out. He wasn't low enough to be at his knees, anyway. Man alive. What ridiculous hyperbole.

Could that possibly be because he sees that Sharp is heading right towards him and he wants to brace himself for impact?

Niederreiter certainly isn't the cleanest player on the Wild, as he does a lot of chippy stuff to get under his opponents skin and always plays hard hockey, but I've never once seen him actually make an attempt to injure a player, and I've watched darn near every game he's played for the Wild, and a couple when he was on the Island.

In this case, he was clearly tripped before making contact, and didn't regain balance in time to avoid the collision. He barely had time to brace for it! This play is a textbook example of incidental contact.

There was no intent to injure. It was a bad call and will obviously not result in any more discipline.

Looks like both Nieds and Faksa were both guilty of trying to trip one another. Very hard to tell if Sharps hit was malice, could be, but almost certain it doesnt happen if Faksa and Nieds dont try to trip each other to begin with.

Lindy Ruff comes across looking like a real idiot here.

Then again, judging by some of the threads on Marchand, half of HF will still think this was deliberate.

No matter which gif I watch, Niederreiter just looks lost the entire time.

Well, to be fair, Lindy Ruff is a complete idiot. So that's not surprising.

Faksa was playing cheap all game. Gave Suter a shot, which did not work out at ALL well for him, as Suter absolutely destroyed him on a clean check into the boards later. He then stuck his foot out on Nino, and after that went after Erik Haula, of all people. That's sort of like picking a fight with Bambi. Looks like he is trying to emulate Roussel.

What is even more bizarre is how a great player like Benn is making like Landeskog and taking dumb penalties. He broke his stick on Coyle's back, negating a PP, and seems to think his job is to be an agitator, jabbing people after the whistle and in front of the net. Shouldn't Ruff be telling him to leave that to others, and go out there and score goals? Or is he too stuck in the 80's? Do they really want to emulate CO as a team?

Because that's where they are heading.

It didn't look intentional to me.

Perhaps Lindy should focus more on his coaching job and less on commentary that makes him look silly.

The fact it took 12 hours to get a thread up, says everything you need to know about this "hit" (more like collision).

Hits that are actually cheap, are up in minutes.

looked really WTF live but replays showed it wasn't intentional. i think that's why most coaches and players keep their comments diplomatic immediately after the fact.

As for the assertion Nino was trying to trip Faska? what the hell? does that make any sense at all when he was responsible for getting to the puck carrier? why would he do anything that impeded him? Faska looked like he was trying to impede Nino from accomplishing that.

First GIF made it look pretty cheap. Second GIF showed reality and that Nino clearly didn't do this on purpose.
