Should we, as fans, swallow our pride and hope the Rangers lose enough to finish WC1?

Should we, as fans, swallow our pride and hope the Rangers lose enough to finish WC1?

If we get the Wsh/Pit/Cbj bracket we're basically doomed.

Mtl/Ott/Tor is much juicier.

Last year a lot of us were anti-tanking at the end of the year for the Panthers because it "wasn't right," and then we got destroyed by the Penguins.

I don't know about you, but going 10-10-5 in the last 25 would be more than okay with me.

WE'RE A CONTENDER

*but only if we lose enough to sneak into the bracket that's less imposing

Here's some cake, I'm going to eat that.

I go back and forth on this, but at the end of the day I don't think there's any way the players or coach intentionally lose a game. The bigger issue I have is with the NHL even making this a question. Just go back to the 8-seed format, or better yet, 1-16 ignoring conferences! This division playoff format just isn't exciting to me and the crossover rule makes it straight up dumb.

Good teams find ways to win hockey games. This whole pseudo-tank for a wild card spot is ridiculous to me. Just play, and keep winning. Winning in the playoffs is all about getting hot goaltending, puck luck, and staying healthy.

I think they'll get bounced in the first either way so it doesn't really matter what bracket they are in.

And even if they get past the first round team, there zero chance they get past the second

I say let them play as they normally would. If they're a legit contender they should be able to beat the teams in the Metro, as former-silverfish kinda said a couple posts above me

Im torn. I literally hate the notion we should lose on purpose but it did work for Islanders last season.

Winning a playoff round last season was one of the worst things that happened to the Islanders.

Look what they did in the off-season based off of that win? The most egregious thing being not firing Capuano in the off-season.

False hope.

Choosing your opponent is a dangerous game. Be careful what you wish for. If you think Montreal is an easier opponent, you're in for some disappointment. And if you don't think you'd beat the Metro teams in the first round, what makes you think you'll beat them later?

No, because if the Rangers continue to play the way they're playing, they finish second in the Metro. Granted that puts them up against Columbus (who I think they beat), or Pittsburgh, but they're going to have to play Pittsburgh or Washington anyway at some point.

I also don't think the Rangers match up very well against Ottawa. Ottawa plays that bull**** style of hockey that frustrates the **** out of the Rangers. I also think Ottawa steals the Atlantic Division #1 seed. Personally, I'd rather take my chances playing pond hockey with Pittsburgh and hope Hank is hot, than trying to negotiate trapping third line ***clowns in Ottawa.

Well it's the difference of playing them once versus playing them twice.

Different situation. That matched up the Isles against Florida, a pretender, instead of the hottest team in the league.

I dunno, playoffs are a different season. Be careful what you wish for...

So the Islanders would have been better off losing?

Long-term? Probably.

Maybe in the off-season they fire Capuano and don't sign Ladd.

Hindsight is 20-20.

Ideally, I want Columbus in round 1, with Washington and Pitt playing each other first. Let those two teams kill each other and then move forward from there.

Like NCRanger said, I don't wanna deal with Ottawa's trapping style, nor a team rallying around a goalie whose wife is battling cancer.

I also think that the Islanders did it accidentally on purpose last year, but it didn't get them anything other than winning one round and seeing their hated rivals have to play Pittsburgh.

What hurts more in hindsight is, IMO, the only team in the East last year that the Rangers were definitely going to lose to in the playoffs was Pittsburgh. Not saying the Rangers would have WON the East if they avoided Pittsburgh, but the chances of it were better.

If you can't beat good teams, you still have to face them later on, and if you're going to lose later, then you're just making that first first rounder we've had since 2012 even later

Foresight or hindsight, I doubt a single Islanders player, owner, employee, or fan would rather have lost that series.

Win every game you can no matter what. It's really the only way. Any other way is half assed.

If finishing in a lower standing provides a decent advantage, then the Rangers should definitely "tank" for it.

And they can kiss my ass with the pride business because there have been many important games over the years where the BlueShirts with great pride played like absolute **** not on purpose , but because they didn't show up for the game mentally.

The fact is that in the current parity induced league, the matchups are more important than just finishing as high as you can. Earning the 1-8 matchup is no longer the nearly guaranteed victory.

You need to play the cards you are dealt.

When the league had out of control spending, the Rangers didn't have too much pride to spend and lose to the point of embarrassment, so now they have too much pride to put Tanner Glass in goal for a few games to get a better matchup?

If you think you're an elite team, you go out an beat whoever lines up against you. Then you welcome the next up.

We finish where we finish. I'm more concerned with how the team is playing than where they finish in the standings.

Don't care because I'm not convinced we beat anybody in the East, sans Ottawa.

We'll go as far as Hank takes us.
