Looking forward to the Habs' possession game going way up under Julien. IMO we were giving the puck away way too much.

Mathieu Dandenault was saying yesterday that when he played under Julien in Montreal, he liked the fact that every player knew what their role was. He even said that when he was in Detroit and coached by Bowman, he was never sure what the coach wanted him to do (play defense, forward, right wing, left wing). He loved playing for Bowman but he didn't always know what he wanted Dandenault to do.

Julien told him exactly what he wanted to do and if he was ever a healthy scratch or his ice time dropped, the player knew what he wasn't doing right because he knew what his role was. And that made it easier for the player to do a better job.

We had to pay a guy $5M to get that.

Pathetic.

We are better already, and somewhat of a pretender...that being said if MB can get us top 6 help, we inch towards a contender. Wash/Pitt are the two real horses in this race, and those teams are the only real contenders in the East. Columbus can also be added to that, but I have a feeling they are out in the 1st round.

Sounds like Max is already excited about the change in puck possesion philosophy.

I think we all can agree to this. Another 1/2 center would REALLY help. It would be nice to trade Pleks and move the new guy in at either 1/2 with Galchenyak playing the other center slot.

Moving Danault to three is where he belongs. I'm proud of him for doing a respectable job while playing line one.

I thought McCarron would be on line 4 but maybe that will take a while for that to happen.

No doubt Habs will be better and should right this ship. I still don't see them as a contender yet against the Big Boys- Pitt and Wash for sure.

It's not as simple as 'they're clearly better' or 'it makes no difference'. They'll have a better winning percentage than their last 40 and they'll probably be better prepared for playoff matchups. That's all that matters for now.

If MB doesn't upgrade the team and Carey doesn't become superhuman again, well, they'll probably get bounced in the 2nd round and next year the honeymoon is over.

Wait, are you bashing Pacioretty for being excited that we got a new coach?

It just shows how performing well for 82 games plus getting to finals depends so much on trusting your leader.

I still think the Habs were a good team under Therrien, just lately they looked terrible as Price hasn't been the same and the offense turned into a one line team. So for me going forward, my questions are what happened to Price and can he get back on track. We go were Price leads us, if he's at his best we always have a shot to win. Then it's the offense, we can not be a one line scoring threat, until that changes it will be difficult to win consistently. Gallagher, Galchenyuk, Lehkonen, Shaw, Pleks, if some of them can heat up it will do wonders as long as Price is close to his old ways.

He's a brand new voice with fresh ideas that eventually will become redundant in years from now.

But as of today, Habs can count on one of the best coach in the NHL.
Some talked about respect for years, this one earned it.

- Galchenyuk, Plekanec, Danault, Mitchell as a center line as it should have been from day 1.
- Galchenyuk back on the top line, Plekanec back in a 2-way role and Desharnais back in the press box.
- Can actually speak english and didn't use the terms compete or focus.

Pretty good first day.......but is it enough?

Discuss
Plekanec at number 4 slot.

Patches way of saying "thats not what the last coach wanted us to do, and we have been sick of playing his way"

"shoot da puck, go for rebound !!!"

"chip if off da boards" ""

Team will be well stuctured. I love Julien. But it won't be today. I expect a small 2-3 game slide and then, a winning streak.

But when the honeymoon is over, and CJ doesn't look as great as he might look now, MB will be on the hotseat like never before too.
If we had a real president or someone above MB who knows hockey, he'd already be on the hot seat. His "5 year plan" was a total failure.

Agreed. I'd also say they need another top-pairing D of the puck moving variety but what I like about Julien is that his defensive system in front of Price can have the team punching above their weight class in a similar way they did during the Martin/Halak run. Obviously, a lot will have to happen for that to take place like the players picking up the system and Price returning to form, but the potential to go deep and upset some teams is there, especially since they play in the Atlantic division.

That was what I disliked the most about Therrien's game plan. Low percentage shots with screens and pounce on rebounds. We had become so uncreative and predictable offensively, not to mention really boring to watch. Hopefully Julien's possession emphasis will do wonders for guys like Galchenyuk, Pacioretty and Radulov.

God no. Saying that it is ridiculous that a player should be excited over what appears to be very common sense coaching instruction. My inference is that MT was not using common sense. I certainly understand why Patches is excited. So am I.

This is a very reasonable expectation. I'm still hoping emotion compensates for the lack of preparation and the team can pull off a win.

Bergevin getting the f out wouldn't change the on-ice product for this year and very little over the next few years.

I feel exactly the same way, he stuck with MT for much too long and now Julien has to come in a mop up his mess much like Carey Mopped up the mess for Michel.
