This is the worst thing to happen to the Avs, who are going to replace him with Steve Konawalchuk. This could possibly kill PK's dreams of $10 million dollars in salary after this season and Av fans' of winning a President's trophy and/or Stanley Cup.

You know...he's been so excited to be there...and now he's got a sprained wrist...was it his right wrist?

Repetitive motion injuries can be a b*tch.

Sprained wrist...my guess is 2-4 weeks.

but whats with Colorado trading all there prospects away?

Radim Vrbata, Jorgen Johansson, Vaclav Nederost.

today:

Bates Battaglia and Jonas Johansson to Washington for Steve Konowalchuk.

March 2003:

traded Radim Vrbata to Carolina for Bates Battaglia.

That means they have basically traded Vrbata and Johansson just to get 15 goal scorer Konowalchuk.

They are definetly trying everything to win this year, In 2-5 years this team might actually suck.

Selanne and Forsberg finish their careers in Sweden and Finland because of the CBA, and Forsberg wants to go back anyway and play on his dad's team.

Sakic and Blake getting older. Kariya signing with someone else next year.

They will still have Tanguay and Hedjuk in the best years of their career...but thats about it.

They do have a few rookies (four I think) playing this year on their lineup. Morris will be their #1 d-man and hes starting to become a pretty good one. IMO, they'll still be a playoff contender post CBA, if they keep everybody around (Forsberg, Teemu staying; Kariya resigning) they'll be a cup contender. I dont think they'll suck but they will not be as good post cba as they are right now, trading away forward prospects doesnt help that but PL is a great gm and always has a plan.

I'm going on the assumption that Forsberg will play out his career in Sweden starting next year. Selanne and Kariya move on.

Sakic centering Tanguay and Hejduk will be a good line. No scoring after that line. Morris as a number 1 D with Skoula will be ok. But no longer will be a cup contender. Could miss the playoffs in 3 years or so. But may not be as bad as I was predicting.

looking at the HF Colorado page, Johansson was their number 1 prospect. Anytime a team throws in a number 1 prospect just to get a player like Konowalchuk...thats not good.

Oh yeah. They pretty much traded him AND Vrbata to get Konawalchuk. That wasn't too smart. Johansson could've easily got them a better LW. Battaglia alone could've been good enough to go on the second line with Sakic and Selanne.

But it wouldn't be worth trading Lupul, Chistov, or Getzlaf (who ever would be our top prospect) for him.
And I don't think the Avs will suck in 3 years. Remember, there will always be free agency for them and they are a rich team.

Well the new CBA might prevent rich teams from buying free agents as much as they have in the past. So it's still possible that the Avs will suck at some point in the next 2-5 years.

i don't think the ducks would stoop so low as to take a shot at kariya if he does play...
i can't wait to her what the fans say in the arena though...

Maybe the Ducks won't stoop so low. But remember, he left Anaheim cuz he felt Colorado was a better chance to win. Which is a pretty backhanded slap to the face.

Pierre Lacroix is not that great of a GM. He was very fortunate to
a) take over the folding Nordique franchise that was stacked with young
talent that include that stupid 6-7 player deal for Lindros, which by
the way Peter Forsberg was part of it.
b) The Roy deal was just pure luck and only happend due to point a)
c) when your owner doesn't even blink with an eye when you write
8,9,10 Mil checks to several players (Forsberg, Sakic, Blake, Roy)
you know life is quiet a bit easier in comparison to a Canucks/Oilers
franchise

I predict that if the Avs don't win it all this year, they will start rebuillding their franchise and PL could be in a lot of trouble. That stupid Pauli/Salami deal might end up backfiring on him - especially if both walk away again by the end of the season for nothing - which would not surprise me one bit seing their recent track record.
I kinda wish that the Avs will not make the P/O and that PL trades Pauli to the Panthers and Salami to the Flames before the trading dead line. Talking about being far apart from each other.

I agree on your points. He is a good gm, but some of his moves lately are questioning his handling of prospects. You'll never see how good a GM is until they have to start from scratch. Holland and PL get press from the media but they have tons of money and take over established clubs. Murray came in and rehauled the Ducks in a year after nearly finishing last in the West. Lou in NJ has built 3 cup teams while working on a limited budget and losing key players like Holik for nothing. Burke and Lowe in EDM should also get props because they have built teams with a small budget, especially Lowe who despite trading great players or losing them to FA always seems to field a playoff-caliber team.

I don't think they'll go out of their way to hit him. And I don't think they will take runs at him. But, if he gets in the train tracks....

FYI:

The Avs removed Kariya off of IR. That being the case he could be back in 7 days or less.

a) very attractive situation indeed
b) sometimes luck is what separates one from others
c) note those are franchise players. you didn't see PL cave in to give Kasparitus 4 million a year did you?

PL just signed a long-term contract so he'll be here a while.

And for the price paid, I don't know why you would consider the Kariya/Selanne signing bad. If it wasn't PL who signed them, it would have been Ken Holland or some other GM getting all the press instead.
