Last year they were the second team to clinch in route to a Kings record year. Lost gas at the end. Lost gas at the end of 15. Looks like it is happening again.

Kings have always been streaky with scoring, even since 12.

Players sacrifice offense in LA for system and a 200 foot game.

Even with one of the worst years they have had in a long time, with legit injuries to key players and a gap that was never filled with Lucic departing, LA is still not technically eliminated.

But Toronto fan says they are not a good team.
That post made me chuckle too.

When those three things are happening, you basically have to play 60 minutes of mistake-free hockey which is impossible to do. Team has zero confidence and this is a group that thrives on swagger. They all look defeated, deflated and all in all, waiting for this nightmare season to be over.
This is a carbon-copy of the Flyers issues.

Players sacrifice offense in LA for system and a 200 foot game. Looks like it is time to adjust/depart from that system with the current make up and personnel.

So Toronto fans cannot comment? Do I not know what a good team is because I am a Leaf fan?

Yes.

j/k

LA isn't a bad team. In fact, they blow most teams away in many areas. Doesn't mean much tho if you can't convert a shot into a goal. LA's system has given them a lot of success. It still keeps them in games actually but I think it has worn the team down. This core is mostly still under or around 30 and they know what it means to win. In fact, the last three years of end of season melt down is hard to watch because they are good and built for playoff hockey. I just think what has brought them success has also taken a toll.

The Leafs are just starting out with their core and current build. They remind me of LA before they became winners. You could be a Leaf fan who has been around since the dinosaurs for all I know. I just think some Leaf fans are a little cocky based on their excitement. Not that I can blame them too much. For the first time in forever I like watching them play.

Yeah, kinda like the caps did last year, gifting the final game and division to the ducks.

Done as far as being able to make the playoffs? No.

Done as far as being cup contenders? Yes.

What's the point of having one of the oldest and the most expensive roster in the NHL if the team is not contending for a championship? Time for a drastic overhaul.

Seems so odd that this team will go 3 years with just 1 playoff win when their corsi / fenwick / other made up stat is so good. Guys who have never played keep saying how important these are, and you will always win if you lead in corsi

Don't worry. Near 40 year old Iginla is about to take over this game and save the Kings season!

Their offense is awful. The two #1 goalies keep them in games, and then their pathetic offense keeps the other teams in games too.

Some Kings fans will rip for me this, but Dean has been awful since the 2014 cup. I can't think of a single really good move that he's made? He's a HOF GM and was one of the best between 06-14, but since then?

I don't blame him for the Kopitar deal, I don't even blame him for the Brown deal. As Brown wasn't bad at the time the deal was given. Then the first season after the extension was signed, which was his last year on the old deal (I think?), he had 3 straight years of failing to reach 30 points in a season. Which he's gonna have 30 or more this year for the first time since.

Too many other questionable deals though. The Bishop trade would have made more sense if they weren't one of the lowest scoring teams in the league. Not that they gave up too much and I don't think they could have done better than acquiring someone like Iginla. It's just that the trade seems all for nothing, when they can't even score.

Nah, your spot on. Dean has been one of the worst GM's since 2014 and most Kings fans agree that sweeping changes need to be made this offseason whether they make the playoffs or not. The team was basically relying on Carter and the goaltending the entire season, now Carter is cooling off and no one else is stepping up. The Kings are in a bad spot and it's not going to get any better unless there is a regime change

Yes, still a playoff team but no longer a Cup contender. Probably a 7th or 8th seed at best.

Eighth seed you say? I don't think the Kings could do anything if they were an eighth seed....

Nah, they're not roaring into the playoffs as an eighth seed like they did in 2012 - they'll be limping in if they make it.

Nah, the Blues are.

I predict -

Central:

1) Hawks
2) Wild
3) Preds

Pacific:

1) Sharks
2) Oilers
3) Flames

Wildcard:

1) Ducks
2) Kings

--------------------------------------

3) Blues
