Our leadership is committed to Helle so I don't foresee a big splash which would block him developing into the starter. And since Chevy got burnt so bad on Pavs deal, it isn't gonna be more than a 2 year deal IMO.
So forget Bishop and likely forget Darling cause they'll be looking for as long term as they can get.
If you could get the underrated Mason signed for 2 years, I think that's an option, although I worry he needs to feel unchallenged to perform his best.
But what I think will happen is they sign a backup like Budaj, Kinkaid, Condon etc so they can continue to start Hellebackup. Otherwise they would have grabbed Halak this year and for next instead of sacrificing it for development.

Helle this year has been such a disappointment. When I first saw him play two years ago in the world champs, I was really impressed. Big and calm were my thoughts at that time. I was kinda rooting for the Jets at that time 'cause I thought the fans were (are) the best in the show and I was happy they had such a good goalie coming up. Now of course Patty has turned all of Finland into Jets fans, including me.

The BIG problem in Helle is his glove hand. He is so stiff and focused on his posture. The more relaxed the muscle is, the more quick it is. Look at Bobrovsky, Price, Rask etc. they are relaxed and quick on their movements. Helle looks like he ate an iron bar. It's because of NA goaltending coaches had an idea and they wanted that goalies just went hands down and block block block instead of really saving the puck. They wanted big goalies and made them just block the puck.

I think Helle can and will improve a lot. How much and is it enough, we will see.

Post-game burgers! It will be the downfall of all of our young talent.

All the Jets need next year is a solid back-up for Hellebuyck. Hutchinson's NHL career is pretty much over and even though Helly has let in his fair share of weak goals this season, we would be in a playoff spot if you pro-rate Hellebuyck's W-L-OTL record.

Hellebuyck is such an interesting case. He has games where he is god awful, but he battles hard, the last two games are evidence of this. Mentally he appears strong.

There still appears to be some high end potential, but that weak glove hand is so concerning.

He so needs a veteran partner next year. Even slightly above average goaltending could make a giant difference.

I actually think for a rookie helle has been good. He's close to league average. It's out backups that have been awful. Helle has had very little help from hutch or pav. Hutch and pav have both not been good. Get us a decent backup... a league average backup and we'd be in much better shape.

Condon might be an interesting guy. Same with Johnson. Darling also but really doubt we are an option

Except Helle isn't a rookie...

It is about time we got above average goaltending. I am patient enough to keep Helle but we need someone to come in and play 40-45 games next year. Halak is a good choice if the Isles retain some salary.

Even a goalie with two more years to go but no more than that....hopefully, Helle is a bona fide starter by then and Comrie can move up to backup/challenge.

More Helly

Glove hand is correctable, he looks like he is thinking too much.
He needs the game to just come to him. He is good, if this is his bad (which is league avg), then a little more experience, he should be better.

Look at hellys record this year, 22-15-3-4, if we had just a half decent backup that had two more wins even then we are over the playoff line. Get a vet that can win as the backup will still play 20-30 games next year. Btw, helly will be a stud.

Are you conveniently neglecting the fact that Hutch ate three of Hellebuyck's losses after Hellebuyck put the team in a massive hole when doing your proration?

A good back up wouldn't have let in that goal with 2 min left vs the wild on a move that I use on my four old that only works half the time.

I don't think he's arguing Hutch is better, but rather he handed Hutch L's because he got piled for poor performances. I really like the potential of Hutch, I'm decently afraid of him never evolving into a great Goalie, and even more afraid we will never have a chance at a cup regardless of our teams talent because our Goalies we will rely on in the next couple seasons(Helle and Comrie) will never be good enough, even after the last two games I'm still definitely not sold upon Helle, I believe the success came from our Defence(Trouba and Morrisey, mostly) alone, making shot happen from a far distance and on bad angles/ they took the puck in most sinerios but gave some sloppy shots always.
I would really love to see the Jets draft 2 Goalies and at least attempt to pick one free agent veteran who knows how to play and see we that gets them splitting the time with Helle.

Any goalie drafted would take 2-3 years to make the Jets at the least.
We need a vet to play 35-45 games. Halak is still my choice.

Chad Johnson or Scott Darling. I think Johnson might be more likely as I think Darling will want starter money/ice time. I think people are being blinded by Halak's play in the AHL - he's had poor numbers in the NHL the past couple of years and lost his job to journeyman Griess.

147 games played in the last three years...

13-14 .917 52 games
14-15 .921 59 games
15-16 .919 36 games

I want Hutch to sign on with another team with a good goalie coach and see if he plays better.

what if Comrie comes into next camp looking like he's NHL ready?
you go with him in the minors or would you look at a 60:40 split between Helle and Comrie?
