I've never had a better laugh at a forum title before. Thought it was a joke, maybe he did some suspend-able thing again and that's why someone made it. But nope.

No because you don't crown the best in the world from an arbitrary start date.

Filip Forsberg has the most goals since February 1st. Does that make him the best goalscorer in the world right now?
Jonathan Toews has the most points since February 1st does that make him the best player in the world right now?
Pacioretty has the most goals since December 1st... does that make him the best goalscorer in the world?
Evgeni Malkin has the highest point per game since December 1st... does that make him the best player in the world right now?

See how easy it is to use an arbitrary start date to spin a narrative?
You can easily say Marchand is having the best 2017 in the NHL. But you can't possibly be serious in trying to assert him as the best player in the world over a 2 month sample, because when you expand that sample to 3 months all the sudden he doesn't lead in any of those categories. And when you go to 4 months out he's barely in the top 5 in points and not in the top 5 of any of the other categories.
And they all lived happily ever after,

THE END

It's a stretch but it's not nearly as comical as you try to make it. Marchand is having his 2nd elite season consecutively.

Oh no, don't get me wrong he's a great player. Top 20 imo. Just that nobody likes him except Bruins fans. I would admire the guy if he wasn't the way he is.

Also i admire my comedy, best slewfooter in the league

inb4 lock but he's a superstar and elite player but not really close to best in the world.

really like him as a player though. his pest and defensive game now supplemented by being an elite offensive player really make him one of the elites in the league.

Considering how Marchand has owned the Panthers over the years, I'm not surprised you aren't fond of him. He's a great player, the OP is doing him a disservice by putting that label on him.

He doesn't have anything on Rich Peverley.

How many players had more even strength + shorthanded goals last season ?

Maybe one maybe two. That's it, that's elite.

Should win Hart and Selke to be honest. He isn't mentioned in those discussion because of his reputation.

Best player? Absolutely not. Best forward? Nope.

But if we're just talking about this season... Best winger? He most certainly has a case.

The thing is, there was an interesting discussion possible here about Marchand, his development and his 2017 year in particular. As so often around here, that possibility disappeared because people can't discuss something interesting without making it into a controversial statement.

That's a very convenient stat. Does it mean he's having a worse year this year now that he's in a 3-way tie for 9th in non-PP goals? Despite the goals, he was also 35th in points. As I said, elite was a stretch.

That's true, and those are the things he's even better at than scoring.

I love how people are taking the bait on this one.

OP either doesn't believe what he's saying and is trying to get a rise out of people or he... actually no, that's it.

It's a stretch not to call these two seasons elite when you factor in his two-way talent and the goals.

There's nothing to believe. Marchand is this year's best player in the NHL. It's either Burns or Marchand. I tend to favor Marchand.

Best player in the world right now isn't in the NHL as there are no games currently being played... ???
