As much as we've struggled against the good teams ...

1-3 against Dallas, loss to Tampa, loss to NYR, loss to NJD, I'm reserving judgement until Legwand gets back to his old defensive shut down the opposing teams top line self ... and giving opposing defenders seizures ... where oh where has our deadly cycle/speed game gone without Legwand, as much as he gets crapped on by the other board, he makes us a better team, plain and simple ... our pp isn't this crappy with him on the half board and sully & walks down low or kariya on the point ... he truly is our setup man, its apparent ... sure we can slug the **** out of the blackhawks of the world but it's apparent that neither Sillinger NOR Perreault can setup our PP the way Legwand can

I agree. The one thing that hurts, though, is it will probably be around playoff time before Legwand is back up to speed....and even then, it will probably take an off-season of serious rest for his knee to heal up more. Surgeries just flat out hurt or cause physical discomfort for a very long time after words...usually in the 6-12 month range. At least thats what I have gathered from my experience with surgery and talking with others/doctors.

food for thought... several are talking about our failure to win games against "good" teams...

teams currently in the top 8 spots in the west records against the current teams with the top 15 poiint totals league wide;

DET.....10-7-4 (2-1 against)
DAL.....14-6-0 (1-3 against)
CGY.....16-9-3 (2-0 against)
NSH.....11-11-2
VAN.....13-13-5 (0-1 against)
LAK......12-10-1 (2-0-1 against)
EDM.....15-12-2 (1-2 against)
COL......14-12-5 (3-1 against)

or we're 11-8-1 against the other 7 playoff teams in our conference

The teams that are really dominating in that statistic are the ones with top 5 goaltenders AND a physical forward/defense corps. The ones that are not, are missing either the goaltending or the physicality....At least, that is one way you could analyze those stats. The other is....its hard to beat teams that are just as good, or better than you are

i think to me what it shows more than anything else...is that DET, DAL, CGY are the three teams slightly ahead of the rest of the pack in the west.. and yet, we're still 5-4 head to head against these three teams

a person could also make the point..that we match up very well against 4 of these 7 teams...DET,CAL,LA,COL.. and not so well against DAL,VAN or EDM...part of that is no doubt due to the physical strength of those 3 teams, and the fact that the against the other 4 teams, the more 'skill teams', we happen to be able to play our game more.. well ok detroit might be a bad example, but still

the current top 8 western conference teams records against each other;

CGY....13-9-3
COL....11-13-5
DAL.....13-8-1
DET.....10-6-4
EDM.....16-11-0
LA........11-8-1
NSH......11-8-1
VAN......9-13-4

this more than anything else shows lots of parity here, with surprisingly Edmonton having the most wins(and second most losses) against other playoff spot teams...

I'm biased - check my username - but I think the team will play much better when Legwand returns. You need a shutdown center and Legwand usually plays against the other team's top lines. Here's for hoping.

I doubt we will see too much out of Legwand this year. Knee injuries are hard to recover from, especially when surgeries are involved. Just based on the extra time he has been out this year, I would guess that he is having problems with the knee. I'm going to write Legwand off as a bonus until next season starts, and just hope he is able to vie 70% without screwing up his knee even worse.

Center David Legwand was out there too, and Trotz said afterward that Legwand would probably be activated after the Olympic break and possibly be sent down to Milwaukee for a few games--not so much for conditioning, but to "get his hockey game back" after being out for such a long period of time.
I think we'll definitely see Legwand in March and April. Now I will agree with you in that we don't know how effective he can be since knee injuries are tricky. But based on what the team is saying he'll be back this season.
