The other 31 teams and their fans are all going to need therapy for the rest of their lives if the Pats manage to pull this off. Oh my goodness, the tears will be real. LOL

Winning 3 out of 4 years TWICE would allow me to die a happy person at age 26.

Dont'a testing free agency. Hope we can still re-sign him, even though we can seemingly lose about anyone and replace them swimmingly.

Have a feeling the Patriots do the same thing with Hightower that they did with McCourty. Let him test market for an offer and then sign him.

They're right not to use the franchise tag on him since the tag doesn't separate MLB's with OLB's. He'd be making a lot more under the than he should because of that.

4 years/52 million with probably 26 guaranteed and a signing bonus gets it done.

Colin Kaepernick to opt out, become free agent

What a moron.

The last year was a player option so it is guaranteed so they could not do anything about it. He basically walked away from 14.5 million and I find it hard to believe any other team will pay him anything close to that.

That's actually not true. It was only guaranteed against injury. He would've had to be on the roster for the week one game for it to be truly fully guaranteed.

Including playoff playing time?

Good luck to him, though, seems like a good guy, made some great plays in the SB, and was a good story.

Edit: To add to this, here's his full statement:

"Thank you Pats Nation. As a player you've given so much support to, I owe you an explanation as to why I'll be moving on in FA... even if it isn't a big deal. This year and this opportunity gave me a ton. I made lifelong friends in a great locker room and became a champion. I'm so thankful that Coach B (the GOAT) took a chance on me and allowed me the opportunity to play a small part in this wonderful year. This has zero to do with money, etc. It's the right move in my heart because I want to get back to being the player I was before. I'm thankful for my role this year, but as a competitor, I'm itching to do what I do best. It was important to say thank you personally. You may not remember me much, but I'll always remember y'all!! #driveforfive #missionaccomplished"

Obviously a top bloke, hope to see him on a team I can root for when they don't play the Pats/affect the Pats in the standings.

Whether that is true or not I am not sure and don't have the time and energy to rip through the NFL CBA. But one thing I do know is San Francisco has no other QB's and were not going to try to get rid of him so he basically walked away from all that money and will not come close to getting it from another team.

Either way the guy is still a moron.

You think he's a moron for reasons that are completely unrelated to his contract situation. You don't have to read through the whole cba.

"He decided to do that, and it throws him into the boat that everyone else is in, which makes it easy for us,” Shanahan said at the NFL combine. “We don’t have an attachment to Kap. We look at him just like all the other guys that I’m looking at. It was good to get to meet him. And talk to him. But besides that, it’s like looking at film of him like everyone else.”

If Kaepernick didn’t opt out, the 49ers certainly would have released him rather than pay him a $14.5 million base salary in 2017.

How about an article from a month ago?

Kaepernick’s exit has been almost a foregone conclusion since October, when his contract was revised and allows him or the 49ers to terminate the upcoming final season of his deal, when he’s owed a $14.5 million base salary.

Random free agents I'd want, outside of ours. Probably won't get any.

Andrew Whitworth (I'm ready to move on from Solder)
Jarvis Jones
Dre Kirkpatrick (probably too much overlap with Rowe though)
DeAngelo Williams

Not any of the receivers.

I can't possibly figure out a reason for keeping Jimmy G, unless Brady has specifically said he is done in 2 years.

I mean, if the offers suck, okay, I guess his value as a backup is worth it since you could potentially survive an injury to the best player in the NFL an still be a Superbowl contender, but if Brady has 3 years left like I think he does, move JG now at the peak of his value and go win another title with Brady.

Because a franchise QB is more important than a pick and a year or two of spending way too much on a backup.

DeAngelo Williams yes.
Brandon Marshall yes.

Hightower needs to be signed, so I hope they match whatever offer he gets.
Logan Ryan Gone.
Duron Harmon Gone.
Marty B Gone.

Will be a completely new team next year, I hope they trade Jimmy G for a high AF pick. Chances Patriots draft Peppers in the first round?

Pats are in on Brandin Cooks. They offered their pick at 32 but NO wants a mid round 1st.

That seems high for Cooks. But they probably could acquire that pick NO wants in a deal form Jimmy G.

When I said I didn't want another receiver, I wasn't referring to Cooks. He'd be a stud here.

Marshall... I'd take at a HUGE discount, but if he wants market value, he's not a big enough upgrade over our current guys. Cooks is.
