Myers has had some injuries. Bogosian is a $5M pylon at this point.

A pylon that still plays on the ice as opposed to sitting injured in a press box...

Only a serious injury this year calls his value going forward into question, but it's way premature to flip out over that. Since the trade, Bogo has 123 gp, Myers 108, not even that far off overall.
If you look at their whole body of work, they're both often injured #4s who are prone to mental lapses in their own end. Having Myers instead of Bogo would totally improve the offensive contribution from the blue line (I don't think bogo can hit the side of a barn with his shot) but would do nothing to improve play in our own end nor is he any better at the stretch pass crap we love to do

Don't worry, the plan is to trade Kane ++ for a slightly above average D-Man.

Everything's going to be fine.

Right now? Sure

Bogosian isn't the player you want to use with the games played argument.

I dont see how Kane wont get us a top 4 D. Kane + 2017 1st should be more than enough to get a legit 22-27 year old top 4. We have a legit 3C to add to it as well in Girgensons.

Myers was a member of an old pushover core. He and bogosian are a wash. I don't miss myers at all. If bogosian is still on this team when we are playoff bound you will feel the same. I'll take the heart and soul player over the talented under achiever everyday of the week.

What tells you Bogosian will be good in the playoffs? Bogosian's 0 playoff games in his career or his muscles?

I'll avoid the low road and say his physicality and mental fortitude compared to Tyler I got beat up by Patrice bergeron and was on the team that let my goaltender get run with no action against Myers.

There we go again,

Kane, Girgensons and a 1st Rounder.

Nuts. Absolutely nuts!

Lehner has been run routinely of late. Kulikov just completed a great playoffs. If anyone gets that as a positive it's him.

I think the biggest problem with Bogosian is that he prevents your team from making the playoffs.

Too much, too little?

I have maintained that Kane alone should get you the D we need, but more can be added.

We can't keep Kane financially. Doesn't work cap wise.

I don't understand the idea that fitting Kane can't work financially. Winning teams find ways to keep good players and work them in the cap. Sure, you get Blackhawks moves after cups, but that isn't really the same thing.

Funnily enough, Chicago will be spending north of 40m on their top 6 next year (assuming Kane/Toews/Panarin/Hossa/Anisimov/Kruger stay put). That's the first team I checked but I'll keep looking.

e: Pittsburgh is currently at 33.25 this season for their top 6. LA also bumps over 30 for their top 6, not counting recent acquisitions or Toffoli's impending raise. San Jose sits around 34 for the top 6. Washington will balloon after Kuzya and Oshie get paid.

I didn't specifically search for your stipulation, rather went for average.

If we're looking at the following in two years with a raised cap and a number of ELC/RFA deal players filling in the cracks, I don't see the issue relative to the aforementioned teams. At this point in the scenario Moulson, Gio and Ennis are out of the picture.

ROR - 7.5
KO - 6
EK - 6.5
JE - 8
SR - 7
young winger - ~2

Ennis and Moulson are still here when Kane, Eichel, and Reinhart get new deals.

Even if Murray can move out Moulson and Ennis try to fill out a bottom 6 and also a defense with the remaining money. Is Bogo a top 4? He doesn't play like it. So you may need 2 top 4 D. If you aren't trading a top forward then you are probably overspending in UFA. You also have to sign McCabe.

Chicago and Pittsburgh, as I mentioned a couple weeks ago, had the luxury of signing players to deals that manipulated the cap. Washington also.

I would love to see people fill out a 2018 roster with Kane. I tried, cant do it.

Ennis' contract expires at the end of next year. He's off the books for the first year of the new Reinhart/Eichel deals, while Moulson has one left. After he's gone, it's time to re-sign McCabe. Bogosian is gash but unless someone is dumb enough to take him he'll still be around.

Anticipation of a rising cap is really all the room needed.

2018-2019

ROR 7.5
KO 6
EK 6.5
JE 8
SR 7
YW 2.5
MM 5

Budget ~11 for the other 6 forwards, that's 53m of an ~80m cap

RR 5.4
ZB 5.1
JM 1.6

Split 9.9m between the other 4 d and that's 22m on d.

5m left over for goalies.

Cheap labor is key here but ELC and cheap RFAs are the light anyway

Sam Reinhart is not getting 7 mil per. No chance. Unless he jumps from 50 to 75 points in year 3 of his ELC he isn't getting 7 per. If he puts up 55~ points again then offer him 5.5 per long term or a bridge. He doesn't PK. His 2 way game is mediocre. What would you be paying him 7 mil for? The potential of putting up big #s? It's pretty much agreed on he will be a 65 maybe 70 point scorer in his prime. You'll point to RoR but that was for all UFA years and he was already making 6. He's elite at face offs, PKs, two game etc. an 8 year deal for Reinhart would only buy 4 UFA years. And keeping Kane is easy. In 2 seasons Okposo NMC is gone. Move out Okposo. Kane has been better this year and and in 2-3 years who is going to be better? 27/28 year old Kane or 31/32 year old Okposo who will be even slower then he is now.

Reinhart might not get 7, but I'd rather plan for the "worst"
