I think it's fairly obvious at this point that the MVP on this team is Andrei Markov. Without this guy in the lineup you can pretty much bet that we'll lose more games than win. He is the whole package...I just can't beleive how much he's stepped up his game. He hits, he plays defence better than ANYONE on this team, he scores, and he has HEART. That's something new from him!
Just look at how differently this team plays with him in the lineup. We play 10x more confidently. You see our guys taking risks cause they know we have him to fall back on. Markov is one of the few players on this team that I think can bring us to the Stanley Cup (in a few years of course).
I'll tell you something...If the team continues to play this well with Markov in the lineup and he continues on the pace he's been playing...He WILL get Hart Trophy votes. This guy is THE most important player on the team...
I think Markov has always played with heart. He struggled last season for that very reason (his father was dying of cancer).
As for hart consideration ? He's easily our MVP as far as I'm concerned and I've said it for a long time now. Hart consideration might be pushing it but he could end up top 3-5 in Norris voting if he keeps producing offensively that much and we make the playoffs.
Without a doubt the Canadiens MVP of 2005-06... He provides so much stabilty and reassurance with his play both offensively and especially defensively. Don't want to deal with him being out of the lineup anymore ever again! lol... It just sucks.
I totally agree he is the MVP so far this season. Maybe Huet will give him a run for his money People keep saying we need a numner 1 dman....well I think we already have the #1 dman and need someone to play by his side.
He's looking like a complete D-man, that's for sure. I still think we need a number 1 D, but it's more to complement Markov than pass him on the depth chart (much like Ottawa with Redden + Chara).
He's putting up the points, he's good defensively, he makes good passes. And he's probably the best, if not a top 3 D in the entire NHL to cover the blueline on the point: he pinch at the right moment, he stop the puck in mid-air constantly... really incredible eyes-coordination. That comes a long way in improving a PP i might add.
I dont know of any player right now that has smarts like this guy. Rarely do you find a player that almost never makes a mistake in the three zones.
Agreed, one of the smartest players in the league, always a step ahead and thinking proactively, a real joy to watch him play...he's been my fav. player in the NHL for the past couple of years...He's a unique talent and he's starting to get the recongnition he deserves.
