Fedorov's First Goal!

This is by no means a game-day thread, but I'd just like to post that 2:41 into the first period Sergei Fedorov netted his first goal as an Anaheim Mighty Duck from Sykora and Ozolinsh. Prospal later got his second goal of the year 3 minutes later.

Let me emphatically state that in no way should this thread be construed to be a game day thread.

Lupul was invisible in the San Jose game. Coaches have to give Rookies wake up calls like this. Healthy scratch was necessary.

Speaking of it... Lupul didn't do anything in the San Jose Game.

What did he do this time?

A good performance. Smart, composed defense saved Jiggy's bacon. He looked shaky again, although not as bad as he did against Boston. We played classic Ducks defense ("classic" means last year), and it's a credit to how much we've improved that we can play that game and still generate as many offensive chances as we did. Barring significant injury, this team is going to score a lot of goals.

Buffalo up next. Given our start, this is must-win. Can't afford to drop points to lower-echelon teams, especially at home.

That may be it, but I don't think so. Lupul's young, he's never played any schedule like this. A back-to-back night was an ideal opportunity to give him a breather. Of course if Babs chose to spin it into a motivating factor, so much the better!

Well i assumed that motivation was the reason because when Chistov was healthy scratched at the beginning of the season last year, Babcock said that he scratched him to motivate him...not to give him rest.

So I think he is doing the same thing to Lupul as he did to Chistov.

Great goal by Fedorov. To see him excited and celebrating his first goal was a great scene in Anaheim. We need that excitement from him.

i'm actually shocked he hasn't gotten more goals.. he looks like to be the only duck that is working his arse off imo.. last night was a game that i actually watched without disruptions, and he was the fastest skater for the Ducks.. i'm glad he finally got his goal though...

I thought Fedorov and Sykora looked real good together last night.

Also that that Giguere, looked very shakey. Leaving big rebounds all over the place.

"I was yelling like crazy for it and he found me there. It was a beautiful play," Fedorov said. "I was pretty happy. I actually never thought it would be that exciting."

from ESPN
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/recap?gameId=231022025

hopefully the excitement will motivate him.

In his seventh game! Way to go Feds! He owes you guys another 38 to be worth his contract. I think he will get them but it had to be bugging him that he hadn't scored yet after getting his big contract. Maybe they will start coming in bunches for him now.

If you can only get Prospal to look like an NHLer you will be in business. Sykora looks awsome so far this year and if you guys keep that line together it could really be a great one. (of course, that is if Prospal is up to it. I know that Feds and Sykora will be)

The 1st line is McDonald-Fedorov-Sykora and Prospal is on the 2nd line with Rucchin and Nieds. Babcock will stick with these lines for a while, they are both playing well. They have been ever since McDonald's return made them possible.

Now if we could only get some goals from the 3rd and 4th lines. I'm all for the benching of Lupul for a game, but the 2nd PP unit suffered with Krog in his place.
