we won't know that until we know how much he signed for...

but great for the organization to sign him longterm... and good for Cheechoo to sign with a team he's always wanted to be with.

ya, the Cheechoo story is quite amazing actually. I fully agree about needing to know the $$$ concerning Nabby. 5.3M for 4 would make me nauseous. You'll notice I only decided to start a Cheechoo thread

what I was saying is that you can't assume it's a great deal for Cheechoo until you know the $$ that Cheechoo has signed for... what if he signed a 5 yr $35mill deal?

been a fan of the guy ever seen I first saw him play... became a bigger fan since I've been to Moose Factory on projects and met a bunch of his family there and heard a lot of stories about him from them.

Great for Cheechoo, one of my favorite NHL'ers. With his shot and Thornton feeding him the puck for the next few seasons at least, Cheechoo is going to have many more productive years ahead of him.

He's just starting to really put up numbers, up until now they have been good but not great. That is a fair deal that may look really good for S.J. by the end of the contract.

Wow, yeah, that should prove to be a great deal for the Sharks. Especially if they can have Thornton feeding him pucks throughout all 5 years.

It would make more sense to me if tsn screwed up and Cheechoo got the 5.3 and Nabby the 3 mil.

New nickname for Nabby is The Ancient Mariner, because he will hang like an albatross from the Sharks neck for 4 damn years.

Brutal signing.

sorry about that... I thought the money reference in your response was in response to the 2nd half of weaponomega's quote "good for them. Much better than the Nabokov signing."

No doubt 7M for cheech would be even more nauseating.

Very good deal for the Sharks. I think it will set the bar for many RFA this summer.

And Nabokov just joigned Theo in the grossly overpaid bad goaltenders category...

They did a great job getting their young goal scorer on a good contract for the next 5 years then...they go and give a good but not great goalie 5 million + for the next 4 years? bad move.

Sharks have ~16 million tied up in Marleau, Thornton, and Nabokov for each of the next two seasons (Thornton is an UFA in Summer '08).

Leave Nabokov alone.

the guy is noly 30 years old.
He took San Jose to Eastern conf finals last time around and only lost to Khaby.

He old franchise records for games played (296), minutes (16,855), wins (135) and shutouts (27) and single-season shutouts (9).

People in this forum are very quick to right off a player once he does not produce.
I recall reading the same thing about Hashek before this season, or even prior to him sgining with Detroit.
Now they are all placing him among top 5 goaltenders.
Nabokov is still young, and is capable of going at it for another 10 years.

It was a right thing to do on SJ's part, and I am happy for them

Yeah, well the Isles have $16 million tied up in Yashin, Satan and Zhitnik. Our dead weight wins!

Seriously though I love to see this. Cheechoo is a great young player only getting better and he's gonna stay at a discount to try and win a championship. He could be a cocaine-addicted, wife abusing drunk and be labeled a "character guy" and a "winner" for years because of this!

Wrong conference, wrong goalie the Sharks lost to.

Personally i think Cheechoo should have signed a 3 year deal. If he becomes a regular 40+ goal scorer(or even 50) he could demand more.

If he becomes a regular 40 guy...he can thank the Sharks for getting Joey Thornton. The five year deal is his way of saying "thanks."
