Is Bettman The Worst Commisioner In Pro Sports History?

Lockouts, expansion team in Vegas when there's about 4 or 5 teams currently with no market... And his most recent act- Rangers sabres winter classic at CITI FIELD? I think there's another NY team that could've been in it that would've sold A lot more tickets and garnered a lot more interest.

By the way I'm not an islander fan. It's just pure stupidity.

Sure but it'd be hard to get the Yankees to agree to an ice hockey game

Does he make more money than his bad decisions cost?

Having 15 outdoor games a year is legitimately something I never would have thought would work but people keep doling out the cash so bravo. Putting all hockey games in Canada (except HNIC) on a channel that only pay subscribers get? Genius.

Bettman is so great at playing the villain though

At the Golden Knights' intro, he was so great, really embracing the role

He's not perfect but the league is miles better than it was when he first started.

As for the lockouts, it takes 2 to tango.

In the last lockout, Bettman came out smelling like roses compared to the NHLPA.

Do I think Vegas should have got a team before Quebec? No
Did Bettman force the owners to put a team there before other locations? No
Is the league making way more money than it ever has before? Yes

That last one is the most important part.
Team values have gone up almost completely across the board.

Nah.

He's not.
He's done a lot for this sport and league, simply put.

Feel like it's just the "in" thing for people to hate on Betman without fully grasping why they do. Some of the reasons I see as to why people hate him aren't actually good reasons.

Bettman has done so much for the NHL. The NHL is so much better off now then when he started.

His ability to take all the heat like he does so effortlessly is honestly incredible. A real close look at the things eh has done for the league would clearly show him to be a great commissioner.

I heard that Bettman never returned Brendan Shanahan's casserole pan after the office potluck party.

We have this topic all the time, general consensus by the more knowledgeable posters is that Bettman is arguably the best commissioner in sports history (opposite of your opinion). It's not because he's great, it's more accurate to say that everyone else is terrible and/or has been involved in shady dealings.

Never understood the hate for Bettman other than the fun angle of course such as booing him at the every opportunity. Bettman works for the teams. If you hate the direction of where hockey has gone and where it is going, the blame lies solely in the owners hands and not the employees who work for them.

Also , lets be honest here. Most of what they pay Bettman for is to be the guy that takes all the heat for the decisions made by the owners and BOG. It's not like he unilaterally makes all the decisions for the NHL

You know the player unions are also responsible for lockouts, right?
