Everybody knows have to rub the lamp and wait for the Top6Centre tree to grow and pick one off when they're ripe.
You can most certainly draft one. 10 centers drafted in the first round after sergachev.

at minimum, the first rounder and both 2nds should be used on centres.

Rob Thomas or Nick Suzuki in the first.

Real long shots, and I doubt it works, but I'd also try to sign Mike Vecchione (Union - NCAA, UFA), Tyler Boland (QMJHL, UFA) and Jake Evans (our 7th rounder, NCAA, Notre Dame) in order to just just give more rolls of the dice. Its unlikely, but you might find a Tyler Johnson (a steal), or Tyler Bozak (serviceable) in a top 6 role.

Speaking of Tyler Bozak, would anyone try to trade for him if Shipachyov won't come?

This isn't playstation, we're a team in transition, trades are hard, you never know if the player you draft will actually play centre, the prices are generally too high.

He's a bigger Desharnais, so no. Soft, inconsistent and even worse than DD defensively.

13 Options Available this Summer:

2017 NHL Free Agents 2017:
Joe Thornton SJS UFA 37 C L 71 6 42 48 $6,750,000
Sam Gagner CBJ UFA 27 C R 69 18 26 44 $650,000
Mike Fisher NSH UFA 36 C R 67 17 23 40 $4,400,000
Martin Hanzal MIN UFA 30 C L 59 16 15 31 $3,100,000
Nick Bonino PIT UFA 28 C L 69 14 16 30 $1,900,000
Mike Ribeiro NSH UFA 37 C L 46 4 21 25 $3,500,000
Brian Boyle TOR UFA 32 C L 63 13 11 24 $2,000,000
Matt Cullen PIT UFA 40 C L 61 10 14 24 $1,000,000
Derek Ryan CAR UFA 30 C R 54 11 11 22 $600,000
Dominic Moore BOS UFA 36 C L 71 10 10 20 $900,000
Tom Pyatt OTT UFA 30 C L 70 6 13 19 $800,000
David Desharnais EDM UFA 30 C L 38 6 8 14 $2,800,000
Chris Kelly OTT UFA 36 C L 70 5 7 12 $900,000

Guessing Thornton could fufill the 2C spot for a couple of seasons.
Gagner capable? Seems pretty consistent as a 40 point player. Not as small 5.11 / 202 as perceived
Hanzal's health and price scares me. If we lose Pleks to LV might be worth exploring
Bonino = Rather give Danault the 2C job
Boyle = nice 3C option
Desharnais = Fan reaction to the homecoming would be priceless

None of the above appeal to me. I'd look to the draft even though the prospect(s) chosen by the Habs in 2017 might not be ready to step in next season.

That's a thin list of quality players at the C position...

We really need to draft at the C position better...

Having Hanzal as a Plekanec replacement wouldn't be the end of the world. He's still pretty solid offensively and obviously very talented defensively. If Danault is able to improve at all over the summer, that's three solid (if unspectacular) centres. If a scoring winger is also brought in, I think the Habs would have a pretty competitive forward group.
