#72 Positivity!

G - Victory!
- Jack really did well against Kesler
- Bylsma let his strange lines stay together
- Ennis, Moulson & Gorges all looked better than usual
- Zemgus with the hero goal
- Nilsson should be first mention, just for getting a point

- Sabres played like a team for long stretches, the boring system did create scoring chances and allowed Jack to have his moments

B- nothing worth complaining about. Team needed this win and got it, sure there was luck and Nilsson/Zemgus stepping up in the shootout was unexpected, so was Gorges clearing the crease to save sure goals and Eichel pestering Kesler late in the 2nd & most of the 3rd

...............

Players seemed more humble somehow. Nothing worth trying to explain.

Can't lose every game. 3-7-2 since the Bye and Eichel has 16 points in those 12 games.

I'd say you've been getting what you wanted for the most part. I'm right there with you but you can't expect to lose every game. I'm just glad the game we won was an entertaining well played game.

during the game I noticed McCabe did not look like he was having a good game, outside the assist. Was chasing and not making the best decisions. Probably getting worn down.

Stayed up for this one. Lucky goal made up for 2 goal posts the night before when that game still scoreless. Sabres did not get pushed around which I liked. Team did not quit despite third game in 4 nights against 3 better teams.

U: Bylsma still seems to believe that Gorges-Risto is a good idea. Just end it ffs.

Haven't finished the game yet but Reinhart has looked very solid imo.

Only watched the SO last night.

Should be a known fact at this point. He's absolutely has to be a centre to justify being a second overall pick.

He's pretty useless on the wing, but he's decent at center.

I was at the bar watching this during the last 10 minutes or so along with OT, SO and the bar went crazy when Risto scored in the SO because his goal was absolutely filthy.

We don't get pushed around, that part of Murray's plan has worked, we are a heavy team. Foligno is near the top in hits, Kane's up there, Deslauriers. Our defensemen may be easy to exploit for shots and scoring chances but they are a pain to play against physically.

We got lucky and we can't score at ES. I predicted this to others, LA and Anaheim are tied for 3rd in PK. Surprise, surprise, we got one goal in those 2 games against them. Unless our top ranked PP can put up a few goals we don't do well. The exception is guys like Jack & Kane creating a lot on their own. Had the Ducks scored 1 more in regulation we'd be miserable about this game.

~20G/50P is not useless.

But yes, he belongs at center.

Where Sam Reinhart ranks among Sabres forwards at even strength

on-ice:
1st in shot attempts for per 60 minutes
4th in shot attempt%
1st in unblocked shot attempts for per 60 minutes
1st in unblocked shot attempt%
4th in shots for per 60 minutes
2nd in shots for%
1st in expected goals for per 60 minutes
1st in expected goals%
1st in scoring chances per 60 minutes
2nd in scoring chance%

individually:
5th in points per 60 minutes (better than ROR, Okposo)
6th in individual expected goals per 60 minutes (higher than ROR, Okposo)
3rd in individual scoring chances per 60

This is all while playing out of position in a scheme that doesn't fit his skillset in the slightest.

The only "issue" with Sam's play is terrible shooting luck, the only regular with worse sh% at even strength is Matt Moulson.

Of course Reinhart isn't useless. That's why Stokes opinion of him has always been massively ignorant and childish. And 99% of fans who read the forums know that.

The issue with Sam on the wing is that our scheme doesn't empower wingers to slow the play down through the neutral zone. Of course, our best 1v1 players are stuck at center, compounding this issue.

5 ES goals = pretty useless. Johan Larsson has as many.
